Job summary

Chugach Government Solutions is seeking a capable shipping and warehouse technician to perform crating/uncrating and load planning for military and commercial cargo. You will prepare containers, inspect shipments, and ensure compliance with safety and hazmat regulations.

Role requires basic computer skills, HAZMAT certification, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Some TDY travel and readiness training may be required.

Qualifications

  • Mathematical skills at the level of a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a Materials Management/Supply setting.
  • Possesses basic computer/keyboard skills.
  • Certified in storage, handling, packaging, and shipment of HAZMAT for surface and air shipments.
  • Current or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Must be physically fit to lift 50 pounds unassisted.

Job Overview

To perform crating and uncrating of supplies, equipment and materials and operates wood working equipment required for preparing and shaping wood and allied materials while maintaining a positive company image.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties:

  • Inspects outgoing shipments to ensure proper accompanying documents, labels, and any special certifications.
  • Crosschecks and signs manifests and submit claims or other actions with the carrier to resolve any shipping discrepancies
  • Crosschecks and verifies recipient identification for any classified/controlled materials upon delivery, conducts 100% inspection, and manages safe handling of HAZMAT and dangerous goods.
  • Prepares material for airlift, shipment, or storage.
  • Palletizes, crates, and loads or unloads materials.
  • Handles hazardous cargo and performs safe cargo preparation and handling of Hazmat/dangerous goods, including 100% inspection of HAZMAT.
  • Loads cargo on military aircraft pallets or larger pallet trains; marshals vehicles and other rolling‑stock equipment for air shipment; assists the loadmaster in securing cargo as required; and prepares Government cargo for vehicle/rolling stock or airlifts when necessary.
  • Performs aircraft load planning for military and civilian aircraft.
  • Responsible for preparation, preservation, packaging and construction of containers for the movement of cargo.
  • Receipts for cargo and ensures movement within DOD time standards.
  • Uses industrial power woodworking equipment to fabricate containers according to plans, drawings, Special Packaging Instructions (SPIs) and technical orders.
  • Certifies shipments of hazardous and dangerous goods for air and surface movement in accordance with Dangerous/Hazardous Article Tariffs and
  • International Air Transportation Association Publications.
  • Uses the Cargo Movement Operations System (CMOS) automated system to load and extract documentation for cargo movements.
  • Maintains a TCN register and daily inventory of shipping parts, i.e., MICAP, 999, classified, hazardous and special handling cargo.
  • Responsible for implementing, training, and monitoring shipping activity compliance with the reusable container program.
  • Blocks, braces, loads, and unloads commercial/government vehicles using transportation equipment, i.e. pallet jacks, 2‑wheel dolly, forklift, etc.
  • Address and label packages look up and compute freight or postal rates and record the weight and cost of each shipment.
  • Move shipments to the proper department, warehouse section, or stockroom, or shipping dock and direct its loading.
  • Uses proper safety equipment to perform all tasks and ensures compliance with safety standards.
  • Performs duties in support of base contingency plans.
  • Performs other technical traffic functions as required.
  • Must be certified in storage, packaging, and shipment of hazardous material.
  • Able to perform the duties of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours and perform standby duty.
  • May also be required to take part in readiness and deployment exercises.
  • Perform all other job‑related duties assigned.
Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Experience in fabricating shipping containers.
  • Experience in using various power tools in woodworking business.
  • Obtain and maintained certification for movement of dangerous goods.
  • Must be physically fit to allow for stooping, bending, lifting, standing on feet for long periods of time, and able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current driver’s license is required.
  • Have completed or will be required to successfully complete hazardous cargo preparation training.
  • Some TDY travel required for formal training.
