Purpose

This position plays a vital role within the Central Delivery Service (CDS) team, supporting the efficient and timely handling of all incoming and outgoing materials. The primary responsibilities include independently receiving, sorting, processing, routing, and distributing items of various sizes and weights. The role requires a strong understanding of delivery protocols, as tasks are performed with minimal supervision and guided by written job tickets that outline specific delivery instructions, routes, and schedules.

While the position emphasizes autonomy, the employee is expected to seek supervisory input when encountering unclear instructions, incomplete information, or unusual circumstances. Supervisory direction is typically provided in the form of updated priorities or requests to assist with other operational areas as needed. This role is essential to maintaining the smooth and accurate flow of materials throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in receiving, sorting, and processing daily incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Deliver to and pickup from various University locations using departmental tracking equipment and software. Operate and maintain delivery tracking equipment.
  • Operate and maintain University vehicles in a safe manner, completing weekly vehicle inspection logs and reporting any issues to the supervisor.
  • Assist other employees assigned to CDS and the production area as needed to ensure correct and timely job output.
  • Keeps work area clean and free of clutter for a safe working operation.
  • Maintains courteous and respectful contact with all without fail.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED. One year of work experience. Requires a class "C" operator's drivers license.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change and maintain flexibility.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of customers and provide a high level of customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive direction, cooperate with supervisors and work in a team environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of direct work experience in package handling and delivery.
  • One year's customer service experience.
  • Box truck driving experience.


Working Conditions

  • Lift up to 25 pounds
  • Considerable amount of time spent lifting, bending, stooping and standing.
  • Dress for the weather, may work outside in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to work overtime, including weekends


Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$41,600.00/annually + depending on qualifications

7:00am-4:00pm (M-F)

Employment Eligibility:

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
