Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Materials/Mechanical Engineer in the Baltimore area to join our operations team. The role requires independent work and collaboration to interface with the operations organization and manage multiple projects within tight timelines.

  • A background in composites and/or automation/robotics is preferred.
  • Experience generating statements of work (SOW) for external contracting.
  • Familiarity with NADCAP requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently or with others, interfacing with operations to integrate activities.
  • Manage multiple projects within reasonable time constraints.
  • Identify and communicate project obstacles to the work cell manager.
  • Provide technical support for material conversion functions.
  • Support operation-centric meetings with technical guidance on processes and quality.
  • Contribute to KPI definition and improvement for material conversion.
  • Oversee capital investment projects for work cell industrialization and cost targets.
  • Assist design/implementation of capital projects; manage costs.
  • Create and review processes in compliance with NADCAP/AS9100 and MRAS requirements.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • The Engineer demonstrates the capability to work independently (when required), and in collaboration with others, effectively interfacing and integrating their activities within the operations organization.
  • An ability to establish and support multiple projects within reasonable time constraints is required.
  • The Engineer is also responsible for timely identification and communication of project obstacles to the work cell manager.
  • Serves as technical support for the work cell for all material conversion functions.
  • Supports all Operation centric meetings to provide technical guidance and/or direction on process and material quality issues.
  • Supports definition of KPI’s specific to the material conversion process as well as efforts to maintain/improve defined KPI’s.
  • Manages assigned capital investment projects for industrialization of the work cell.
  • Supports the design and implementation of some of the capital projects, as well as managing the cost targets.
  • Creates and reviews processes and procedures surrounding the operation and workflows occurring inside the work cell compliant to NADCAP, AS9100, customer, and MRAS requirements.
  • Drives compliance (first) and efficiency (second) into daily practices inside the work cell.
  • Supports capacity planning and layout designs for the work cell.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent field from an accredited university or college with 0 - 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Technical background in composites and/or automation/robotics.
  • Ability to support multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail with limited direct supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with generating statements of work (SOW) for external contracting.
  • Self-starter and technically curious with practical hands‑on experience working with materials and/or machines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with NADCAP requirements.
  • 3D CAD/Design experience in CATIA or similar.
  • Aerospace materials processing experience.
  • Six Sigma training is preferred.
  • MS office proficient.
