TITLE: Master Technician

REPORTING TO: Service Manager EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt / hourly

General Summary
The Flat Rate Technician (Tech) embodies VIP’s mission to EARN AUTOMOTIVE CUSTOMERS FOR LIFE by embracing the VIP culture and adhering to VIP processes to provide a superior customer experience. The Tech is responsible for diagnosing automotive systems, repairing and replacing parts, fluids, tires, and accessories, ensuring quality work done right the first time. The Tech must follow safety protocols, loss prevention measures, and comply with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prioritize workplace safety by following all safety policies, completing safety training, and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain automotive systems, including all systems covered by ASE certifications such as Engine Repair, Transmission, Suspension, Brakes, Electrical, Heating & Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance.
  • Ensure a valid Service Work Order is initiated and displayed during service.
  • Complete MPI and support the 5-for-5 Customer Engagement Process.
  • Complete and return all service documentation and manage parts efficiently.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness, safety, and equipment standards.
  • Obtain necessary certifications and participate in ongoing training.
  • Support and educate customers about their vehicle’s condition through the 5-for-5 process.
  • Participate in team meetings and adhere to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Performance Measurement
  • Maintain minimum 50% productivity rate.
  • Ensure minimal rework and callbacks by performing quality work the first time.
Standard Work Week
  • Typically 5 days, 40 hours per week.
  • Arrive on time, ready to work, and adhere to scheduled hours.
Qualifications
  • One year of automotive service experience or equivalent education.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • ASE certifications in G1, A4, A5, and other relevant areas.
  • State Inspection License (if applicable).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
The role involves working indoors in a shop environment with exposure to varying weather, chemicals, noise, and physical activity including lifting, reaching, and standing for extended periods. Protective gear must be worn as required.
