General Summary & Scope

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consulting on hair care needs and recommending products and services. They deliver high-quality professional services focused on the guest’s overall look and support the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) through performance, guest service, and adherence to operating procedures and standards. Passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and strong communication skills are essential.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)

The Master Stylist embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing the following duties and other assigned tasks:

Performance

• Perform a variety of hair services including design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (if applicable).
• Achieve or surpass a weekly sales goal of $1250 and meet productivity targets for hair services by providing excellent guest service and contributing to store sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.

People

• Develop strong guest relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
• Serve all guests promptly and efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams to provide a comprehensive store experience.
• Build professional relationships with peers and brand partners to foster a collaborative environment.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, within the salon and salesfloor.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, adhering to state board guidelines.
• Follow established service protocols for a consistent guest experience.
• Use booking and client management systems effectively to schedule and retain guests.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, and other areas.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets through loss prevention practices and delivering excellent guest service.
• Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education

• Cosmetology license required

Experience

• Relevant previous work experience required

Skills

• Proficiency in current salon techniques across hair and makeup services, or the ability to develop such skills
• Ability to operate salon equipment and chemicals safely
• Skill in recommending and selling professional hair care and makeup products
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to build and maintain a strong client base
