Job description

This Environmental Science master’s program offers both Thesis and Non-Thesis options for students interested in advancing their knowledge and skills in the field of Environmental Science. The Thesis option requires a minimum of 32 credit hours, including 6 hours of thesis credit and a minimum of 26 hours of coursework. The coursework must include a minimum of 21 hours of graded courses, with at least 9 hours at the 500-level. Additionally, a minimum of 11 hours of 500-level courses must be included in the major, with the option to include up to 10 hours of supporting work outside the major area.

Students pursuing the Thesis option will conduct original research culminating in a thesis, which will be presented and defended in a final oral exam. The emphasis is on developing in-depth knowledge of Environmental Science through research and academic study. This option is suitable for students who wish to delve into a specific area of interest within Environmental Science and demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research.

On the other hand, the Non-Thesis option allows students to complete a project instead of a thesis, providing a more flexible format for the project report. This option requires 4 credits of a special problem course and 2 additional hours of coursework, totaling a minimum of 32 credit hours. The coursework for the Non-Thesis option also includes a minimum of 26 hours of graded courses, with at least 12 hours at the 500-level.

Both options are designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of key topics in Environmental Science, such as environmental conservation, sustainability, biodiversity, climate change, and ecosystem management. Students will develop critical thinking, research, data analysis, and communication skills essential for addressing complex environmental challenges. The program targets individuals with a background or interest in environmental science, biology, ecology, or related fields, and it is suited for those looking to advance their career in environmental research, policy, consulting, or education.

Prerequisites for this master’s program may include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, foundational coursework in environmental science, biology, or a related discipline, and possibly relevant professional experience. The program aims to prepare students for careers in environmental science research, conservation, policy-making, education, and advocacy. Overall, this program offers a rigorous academic curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to the field of Environmental Science.
