Job summary

LB&B Associates Inc. invites qualified Master Mariner instructors to join our on-call roster at the Mariner Skills Training Center, Naval Station Everett, WA. The role blends classroom and simulator instruction in navigation, seamanship, and ship handling for U.S.

Navy personnel. Ideal candidates bring 3+ years in command (Navy or USCG master), hands-on bridge simulators experience, and deep NSS knowledge.

Qualifications

• Extensive seagoing leadership with command experience (3+ years at sea) as a senior Navy surface ship CO or USCG master (oceans).
• 2+ years of training and assessment with full/part-task bridge simulators or completion of a USCG Train the Trainer program (IMO model course 6.09).
• Expert NSS knowledge, NAVDORM basics, and ship handling/maneuvering principles.
• Strong computer literacy and ability to quickly master maritime simulator software and tools.
• Active or obtainable Secret clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom and simulator instruction to Navy personnel (navigation, seamanship, ship handling).
• Engage in curriculum development for Junior Officers of the Deck (Underway) and Officers of the Deck (Underway).
• Mentor and shape readiness and proficiency of the naval fleet.

The Opportunity As an on-call Master Mariner Instructor, you will deliver a combination of classroom and simulator instruction to U.S. Navy personnel, focusing on navigation, seamanship, and ship handling. You'll also engage in curriculum development for emerging courses such as Junior Officers of the Deck (Underway) and Officers of the Deck (Underway). Your expertise and mentorship will directly influence the readiness and proficiency of America's naval fleet.

What You’ll Bring

• Extensive seagoing leadership as a former senior Navy surface ship commanding officer (minimum 3 years in command, at sea service), or as a USCG licensed master (any gross tons, oceans) with a minimum of 3 years at sea as a ship's master.
• At least 2 years of experience conducting training and assessment with full mission or part-task bridge simulators, or completion of a USCG-accepted Train the Trainer program (IMO model course 6.09), and completion of A-061-0042 VMS Operator Course, A-061-0044 VMS 9 Operator, or an approved equivalent.
• Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of NSS subject areas, NSS Training Requirements Document (TRD), the Surface Ship Navigation Department Organization and Regulations Manual (NAVDORM), standard Navy conning commands, maritime education best practices, and maneuvering characteristics for all ship classes.
• Strong computer literacy and the ability to quickly master advanced maritime simulator software and tools.
• Practical understanding of adult learning principles and instructional best practices.
• Active or obtainable Secret clearance required.
