Qualifications

• Extensive seagoing leadership as a former senior Navy surface ship CO (min 3 years at sea).
• USCG master license (any gross tons, oceans) with min 3 years at sea as ship's master.
• 2+ years training/assessment with full/part-task bridge simulators or Train the Trainer program.
• Demonstrated NSS knowledge and NAVDORM familiarity; conning commands and Maritime education best practices.
• Ability to master advanced maritime simulators quickly; strong computer literacy.
• Active or obtainable Secret clearance.

The Opportunity As an on-call Master Mariner Instructor, you will deliver a combination of classroom and simulator instruction to U.S. Navy personnel, focusing on navigation, seamanship, and ship handling. You'll also engage in curriculum development for emerging courses such as Junior Officers of the Deck (Underway) and Officers of the Deck (Underway). Your expertise and mentorship will directly influence the readiness and proficiency of America's naval fleet.

What You'll Bring

• Extensive seagoing leadership as a former senior Navy surface ship commanding officer (minimum 3 years in command, at sea service), or as a USCG licensed master (any gross tons, oceans) with a minimum of 3 years at sea as a ship's master.
• At least 2 years of experience conducting training and assessment with full mission or part-task bridge simulators, or completion of a USCG-accepted Train the Trainer program (IMO model course 6.09), and completion of A-061-0042 VMS Operator Course, A-061-0044 VMS 9 Operator, or an approved equivalent.
• Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of NSS subject areas, NSS Training Requirements Document (TRD), the Surface Ship Navigation Department Organization and Regulations Manual (NAVDORM), standard Navy conning commands, maritime education best practices, and maneuvering characteristics for all ship classes.
• Strong computer literacy and the ability to quickly master advanced maritime simulator software and tools.
• Practical understanding of adult learning principles and instructional best practices.
• Active or obtainable Secret clearance required.
