Responsibilities include advanced troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance across a wide range of building systems, such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, access control, and life safety systems. The technician is expected to work independently, mentor less experienced staff, and help ensure consistent service quality and operational efficiency across Grounds.

Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,100 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

  • Diagnose complex maintenance issues and implement effective, long-term solutions with minimal disruption.
  • Balance preventive maintenance schedules and urgent service needs.
  • Coach and mentor junior technicians, supporting their technical development.
  • Maintain accurate work logs, provide shift-to-shift handoffs, and update supervisors as needed.
  • Communicate job status and expected timelines to customers clearly and professionally.
  • Enforce and promote safety practices per OSHA, federal, state, and local standards.
  • Record work activity in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and complete timecards accurately.
  • Attend required safety and skills training.
