Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD seeks a Master Level Clinician for the NW Clinic – Adult Clinic in Houston, TX. This role performs independent suicide risk assessments, safety planning and evidence-based interventions under LPHA supervision.

Your responsibilities include treatment planning, crisis intervention, CBT delivery, and coordinating access to care with inpatient and outpatient teams.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • 6 months clinical experience.
  • LPC-A, LMFT-A or LMSW in the state of TX.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates consumer treatment including assessment, planning, admission/discharge, and service authorization.
  • Monitors progress toward treatment goals to determine effectiveness of interventions.
  • Performs clinical assessments to evaluate priority population diagnosis and needs.
  • Provides CBT focusing on reducing symptoms of severe mental illness and improving daily functioning.
  • Provides crisis intervention to reduce symptoms and prevent admission to a more restrictive setting.
  • Trains on mental illness, medications and TIMA curricula; other trainings as designated.
  • Gives skills training for severe mental illness and related problems.
  • Facilitates access to necessary care and services based on individual needs.
  • Reviews and authorizes treatment/services based on medical necessity.
  • Ensures services meet eligibility criteria and are authorized per policies/regulations.
  • Meets divisional productivity standards.

Are you ready to make a real difference in people's lives? Join the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD as a Master Level Clinician (MLC) at our NW Clinic - Adult Clinic. Under the general direction of the Practice Manager or designee, the Master Level Clinician performs clinical activities related to increased suicide risk such as independent assessments, suicide risk assessment, safety planning and other evidence-based interventions as directed by the treatment plan and/or identified consumer need(s) under the clinical supervision of an LPHA. This position interfaces with Treatment teams, both inpatient and outpatient, and authorizes the medical necessity of services as indicated.

Your Role in Action:

  • Participates in formulation of the consumer’s treatment (inclusive of assessment of needs, treatment planning, admit/discharge planning, and service authorization).
  • Monitors consumer progress with treatment goals to determine effectiveness of interventions.
  • Performs clinical assessments to evaluate the individual’s priority population diagnosis eligibility and treatment needs.
  • Provides cognitive behavioral therapy focusing on the reduction or elimination of symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness and increasing the individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living.
  • Provides crisis intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms and prevent admission to a more restrictive environment.
  • Provides training on the nature of mental illness, the importance of medications, and other medication related information using the TIMA curricula as well as, other trainings as designated.
  • Provides skills training services that address the severe and persistent mental illness and symptom related problems that interfere with the individual’s functioning.
  • Performs activities to assist consumers in gaining and coordinating access to necessary care and services based on individual needs.
  • Responsible for reviewing and authorizing treatment/services based on medical necessity.
  • Ensures all services provided meet eligibility criteria and are authorized in accordance with agency and regulatory guidelines.
  • Meets Divisional productivity standards.
  • Performs related work as assigned. Adapts to changing work requirements. Complies with Center policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and performance contract documentation requirements
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct in all clinical and professional activities
  • Advocates for consumers to ensure that needs are met both within The Harris Center system and in the community.
  • Communicates and works with consumers/visitors/other staff in a manner that demonstrates knowledge of cultural diversities
  • Completes reporting/training as designated in an accurate and timely manner.

What qualifications you will need:

Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • LPC-A, LMFT-A or LMSW in the state of TX

Experience:

  • 6 months clinical experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of diagnostic criteria, specific clinical features and guidelines for formulating a diagnosis.
  • Knowledge about cognitive behavioral therapy focusing on the reduction or elimination of severe and persistent mental illness (if applicable)
  • Maintains current Intern licensure/supervision with appropriate state licensing regulatory board.
  • Strong diagnostic skills, the ability to incorporate patient history, symptoms, environmental and related issues to formulate proper diagnosis & treatment.
  • Strong communication skills, listening and interpersonal skills above average, written documentation is clear, concise, and well-constructed.
  • Knowledge of safer suicide care practices and evidence-based interventions is a strong plus.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to execute standard word processing software on the computer.
