Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD seeks a Master Level Clinician (MLC) at the Emancipation Center to perform intake, diagnostic assessments, risk and safety planning, and individual therapy under LPHA supervision. The practitioner will engage in crisis intervention and care coordination to support housing and mental health goals.

You will deliver cognitive behavioral therapy, monitor progress, and participate in treatment planning while adhering to agency policies and regulatory

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • LPC-A, LMFT-A or LMSW required.
  • 6 months clinical experience preferred.
  • May be necessary to travel to or transport consumers to homes or other field locations.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in formulation of the consumer’s treatment (assessment of needs, treatment planning, admit/discharge planning, and service authorization).
  • Monitors consumer progress with treatment goals to determine effectiveness of interventions.
  • Performs clinical assessments to evaluate diagnosis eligibility and treatment needs.
  • Provides cognitive behavioral therapy focusing on reduction/elimination of symptoms of severe mental illness.
  • Provides crisis intervention to reduce symptoms and prevent admission to a more restrictive environment.
  • Provides training on mental illness, medications, TIMA curricula, and related information.
  • Provides skills training services addressing severe mental illness and symptom-related problems.
  • Assists consumers in gaining access to necessary care and services.
  • Reviews and authorizes treatment/services based on medical necessity.
  • Ensures services meet eligibility criteria and are authorized per guidelines.
  • Meets Divisional productivity standards.
  • Performs related work and complies with policies and performance contracts.
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct in all clinical activities.
  • Advocates for consumers to meet needs within Harris Center and the community.

Description

Are you ready to make a real difference in people's lives? Join the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD as a Master Level Clinician (MLC) with our Emancipation Center. Under the general direction of the Practice Manager or designee, the Master Level Clinician performs clinical activities such as intake and diagnostic assessments, risk assessment, safety planning, individual therapy and other evidence-based interventions as directed by the treatment plan and/or identified consumer need(s) under the clinical supervision of an LPHA. Through the provision of intensive crisis intervention, engagement, and care coordination services, maintaining housing and mental health is the primary focus for this program.

Your Role in Action:
  • Participates in formulation of the consumer’s treatment (inclusive of assessment of needs, treatment planning, admit/discharge planning, and service authorization).
  • Monitors consumer progress with treatment goals to determine effectiveness of interventions.
  • Performs clinical assessments to evaluate the individual’s priority population diagnosis eligibility and treatment needs.
  • Provides cognitive behavioral therapy focusing on the reduction or elimination of symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness and increasing the individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living.
  • Provides crisis intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms and prevent admission to a more restrictive environment.
  • Provides training on the nature of mental illness, the importance of medications, and other medication related information using the TIMA curricula as well as, other trainings as designated.
  • Provides skills training services that address the severe and persistent mental illness and symptom related problems that interfere with the individual’s functioning.
  • Performs activities to assist consumers in gaining and coordinating access to necessary care and services based on individual needs.
  • Responsible for reviewing and authorizing treatment/services based on medical necessity.
  • Ensures all services provided meet eligibility criteria and are authorized in accordance with agency and regulatory guidelines.
  • Meets Divisional productivity standards.
  • Performs related work as assigned. Adapts to changing work requirements. Complies with Center policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and performance contract documentation requirements
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct in all clinical and professional activities
  • Advocates for consumers to ensure that needs are met both within The Harris Center system and in the community.
  • Communicates and works with consumers/visitors/other staff in a manner that demonstrates knowledge of cultural diversities
  • Completes reporting/training as designated in an accurate and timely manner.
What qualifications you will need:
Education:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • LPC-A, LMFT-A or LMSW required.
Experience:
  • 6 months clinical experience preferred.
Other Key qualifications:
  • May be necessary to travel to or transport consumers to homes or other field locations in the provision of services.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of diagnostic criteria, specific clinical features and guidelines for formulating a diagnosis.
  • Knowledge about cognitive behavioral therapy focusing on the reduction or elimination of severe and persistent mental illness (if applicable)
  • Maintains current Intern licensure/supervision with appropriate state licensing regulatory board.
  • Strong diagnostic skills, the ability to incorporate patient history, symptoms, environmental and related issues to formulate proper diagnosis & treatment.
  • Strong communication skills, listening and interpersonal skills above average, written documentation is clear, concise, and well-constructed.
  • Knowledge of safer suicide care practices and evidence-based interventions is a strong plus.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to execute standard word processing software on the computer.
