Job summary

People Technology And Processes seeks a Master Course Approval SME (Top-Level Deck Mariner) to act as the top-level deck SME for the National Maritime Center’s Mariner Credentialing Program. You will review course requests and draft responses ensuring conformance to regulatory requirements.

The role applies senior deck mariner expertise to evaluate course content and credentialing matters, supporting training course approvals and related technical services.

Qualifications

• MMC endorsements for Master Unlimited Tonnage or Chief Mate Unlimited Tonnage.
• Minimum 5 years sailing experience on the listed credential.
• Experience in writing or developing training courses is preferred but not required.
• STCW certificate is not required for this position.

Job Details: Job Location: Martinsburg, WV 25404, Position Type: Full Time, Position Title: Master Course Approval SME (Top-Level Deck Mariner)

Location: Martinsburg, WV

Clearance required: Unclassified (no personnel security clearance required)

Scope of Work: Serves as the top-level deck subject matter expert supporting the National Maritime Center Mariner Credentialing Program. Reviews mariner training course requests and drafts appropriate responses for course approvals regarding the conformance of course requests to regulatory requirements. Applies senior deck mariner expertise to the evaluation of course content and mariner credentialing matters.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Draft appropriate responses for mariner training course approvals regarding the conformance of course requests to regulatory requirements.
• Provide top-level deck subject matter expertise to the review and evaluation of mariner training courses.
• Support the full range of technical services required to meet the mission needs of the National Maritime Center.

Qualifications:

• Must hold or have held, at a minimum, a valid U.S. Coast Guard-issued Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) endorsed as Master of Unlimited Tonnage upon Oceans (Master of vessels of any gross tons upon oceans), OR a USCG-issued MMC endorsed as Chief Mate of Unlimited Tonnage upon Oceans.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience sailing on that credential.
• Preferred (not required): Experience in writing or developing training courses.
• A valid STCW certificate is not required for this position.
