Job summary

Eurofins USA PSS Insourcing Solutions in San Diego is seeking a scientist to perform intact mass analysis for final products using ESI-MS and MALDI-MS, and to support deglycosylation and peptide mapping. The role emphasizes MS workflows and strong biochemistry knowledge.

You will maintain quality documentation and data integrity. The position requires hands-on MS experience, familiarity with LC-MS, SEC, and mass photometry, and the ability to train collaborators while using LIMS for data

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with protein mass spectrometry workflows.
• Working knowledge of protein biochemistry and proteoform characterization.
• Experience designing, executing, and troubleshooting LC-MS or MS-based analytical experiments.
• Familiarity with SEC, SEC-MALS, and/or mass photometry.
• Strong communication and data interpretation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform intact mass analysis for final products on ESI-MS (Waters) and MALDI-MS (Bruker).
• Conduct deglycosylation and reduction workflows for structural interpretation.
• Support peptide mapping requests using Q Exactive Plus.
• Perform SEC for stability and interactions, and process data with OpenLab CDS.
• Acquire and analyze SEC-MALS data for native mass determination.
• Train collaborators on mass photometry workflows.

Job Description

• Perform intact mass analysis for final products and walk-in sample requests on ESI-MS (Waters) and MALDI-MS (Bruker) systems.
• Conduct deglycosylation and reduction workflows to support structural interpretation.
• Support occasional protein identification and peptide mapping requests using a Q Exactive Plus.

Chromatography & Biophysical Characterization

• Perform size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) to assess stability, oligomeric state, and protein-protein interactions.
• Run analytical gel filtration experiments (Agilent) and process data using OpenLab CDS.
• Acquire and analyze SEC-MALS data (Wyatt/Waters) using ASTRA 8 for native mass determination.

Mass Photometry

• Acquire and analyze mass photometry data using Refeyn instrumentation and software, and train collaborators on mass photometry workflows as needed.

Data Management & Documentation

• Use and maintain LIMS for sample tracking and data entry.
• Ensure high data quality, accurate documentation, and adherence to analytical best practices.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Skills

• Hands-on experience with protein mass spectrometry workflows.
• Working knowledge of protein biochemistry and proteoform characterization.
• Experience designing, executing, and troubleshooting LC-MS or MS-based analytical experiments.
• Familiarity with SEC, SEC-MALS, and/or mass photometry.
• Strong communication and data interpretation skills.

Preferred Experience And Skills

• Experience with native MS, affinity-selection MS, or other advanced biophysical tools.
• Exposure to high-throughput or automated analytical platforms.
• Experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology R&D setting.

Education Minimum Requirements

• MS in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field with 0-1+ years of relevant industry experience; or
• BS in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field with 2-5+ years of hands-on mass spectrometry or analytical biochemistry experience.

Work Authorization

Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.

Additional Information

• This position is full time, Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm, with overtime, as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of San Diego, CA are encouraged to apply.
