Job summary

Jewish Community Services (JCS) is seeking a reliable Mashgiach (Kosher Cook) to support kosher meal preparation in residential homes. You will prepare kosher meals according to approved menus, maintain Kashrut standards, and ensure safe food handling practices for individuals with disabilities.

The role requires knowledge of Kashrut laws, a ServSafe Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days), and experience in kosher kitchen environments.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Kashrut laws and kosher food preparation.
  • Experience as a Mashgiach (Kosher Cook) in residential, institutional, or similar settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to prepare food safely and recognize unsafe food conditions.
  • Organized and detail‑oriented with strong cleaning practices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare kosher meals according to approved menus, recipes, and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Kashrut laws and kosher kitchen protocols.
  • Cook all food to appropriate internal temperatures to ensure it is safe for consumption.
  • Use food safety tools (e.g., food thermometers) as needed.

  • Prevent cross‑contamination through proper food handling practices.
  • Maintain appropriate personal hygiene and handwashing standards.
  • Monitor food storage, labeling, and kosher certifications.
  • Promptly report any food safety or kitchen concerns to a supervisor.
  • Work responsibly and independently within residential homes.

Job description

Jewish Community Services (JCS) is seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Mashgiach (Kosher Cook) to support kosher meal preparation within our residential homes. This role is ideal for someone with experience in kosher food preparation who values food safety, consistency, and supporting the well‑being of individuals in a residential setting. In this role, you will prepare kosher meals according to approved menus, maintain Kashrut standards, and ensure safe food handling practices in support of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Prepare kosher meals according to approved menus, recipes, and dietary requirements
  • Ensure strict compliance with Kashrut laws and kosher kitchen protocols
  • Cook all food to appropriate internal temperatures to ensure it is safe for consumption
  • Use food safety tools (e.g., food thermometers) as needed
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment at all times

Qualifications & Experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Kashrut laws and kosher food preparation
  • Previous experience as a Mashgiach (Kosher Cook) in a residential, institutional, commercial, or similar setting preferred
  • Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness standards
  • Ability to prepare food safely and recognize unsafe food conditions
  • Organized and detail‑oriented with strong cleaning practices
  • Ability to interact respectfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between group homes preferred
  • Must possess a current ServSafe Food Handler Certification or successfully obtain certification within 30 days of hire, as a condition of employment.

Schedule: Full-time or part‑time; Eligibility for select benefits is based on scheduled hours. Hourly Rate: $22.00-$25.00/hour
