Job summary

YMCA of Central Maryland, Inc. is seeking a Martial Instructor to teach all assigned Martial Arts classes for ages preschool through adult, under the Association guidelines to maintain program quality. Responsibilities include demonstrating techniques, preparing teaching areas, and tracking class attendance.

You will work with groups and individuals to improve skills, keep records, and ensure progression according to the designated curriculum and standards for advancement.

Qualifications

• Black Belt or equivalent strongly preferred.
• First Aid and CPR certification required within 90 days of employment.
• Experience working with kids.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates and explains basic Martial Arts skills taught in classes.
• Works with students at the appropriate learning level for each class.
• Prepares teaching area with equipment and returns items after class.
• Groups and individuals are guided to correct faults and progress.
• Keeps attendance records for each class.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director of Sports, the Martial Instructor teaches all assigned Martial Arts classes within the guidelines of the Association to maintain the quality of programs. Responsible for creating learning opportunities for specific Martial Arts programs for ages preschool through adult.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Must be able to demonstrate and explain basic Martial Arts skills that are being taught.
• Must be able to work at the learning level of particular class.
• Prepares teaching area with necessary equipment and the returns equipment to proper storage area when class is complete.
• Works with individuals and groups within a class structure to enable all to correct faults, improve self-image, and progress their abilities.
• Keeps class attendance records.
• Follows designated curriculum for classes to ensure basic components are met and set standards for progression are followed.
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

Certifications

• Black Belt or equivalent (Strongly preferred)
• First Aid and CPR certification required within 90 days of employment
