Job summary

Tennessee Craft is seeking a Marketing Manager to lead communications, content, digital strategy, and brand management. You will partner with the Executive Director to shape storytelling, campaigns, and donor communications, driving engagement across events and programs.

The role emphasizes hybrid, Nashville-based work with a focus on strategic messaging, audience growth, and measurable results for the organization’s craft initiatives and statewide events.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in marketing, communications, nonprofit communications, or related field.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing social media, email campaigns, and digital content.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and with volunteers, artists, donors, sponsors, and partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, CMS, and marketing analytics tools.

Job description

For more than six decades, Tennessee Craft has encouraged, developed, and promoted the crafts and craftspeople of Tennessee. Through two iconic annual craft fairs, juried exhibitions, mentorship opportunities, educational programs, and professional development initiatives, we connect craft artists to one another and connect the public to Tennessee's rich tradition of fine craft, strengthening the state's creative economy and cultural heritage.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Marketing Manager serves as the organization's primary communications professional, overseeing content creation, media relations, storytelling, digital communications, brand management, and promotional campaigns. Working closely with the Executive Director and staff team, this position helps ensure consistent messaging, compelling public engagement, and effective donor and stakeholder communications.

Job Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications Strategy (Approx. 35%)

  • Develop and maintain an annual marketing, communications, and content calendar aligned with organizational priorities, programs, fundraising initiatives, and events.
  • Create and execute integrated marketing campaigns that increase awareness, attendance, participation, membership, sponsorship, and donor engagement.
  • Ensure organizational branding is consistent across all public-facing and internal communications and materials.
  • Collaborate with staff, committees, chapters, and partners to advance strategic organizational goals through effective communications.

Content Development & Digital Communications (Approx. 30%)

  • Serve as the primary writer and editor for organizational communications including newsletters, email campaigns, website content, social media, press releases, promotional materials, and program collateral.
  • Produce and manage the organization's monthly newsletter and other electronic communications while evaluating performance and audience engagement.
  • Maintain updates to the Tennessee Craft website and related digital platforms.
  • Develop compelling artist stories, member features, impact stories, and organizational messaging that support Tennessee Craft's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Manage social media strategy, content creation, scheduling, and audience engagement.

Media Relations & Public Visibility (Approx. 15%)

  • Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and outreach.
  • Prepare press releases, media advisories, and story pitches to secure earned media coverage.
  • Cultivate relationships with print, digital, radio, television, and community media outlets throughout Tennessee.
  • Identify opportunities to increase public awareness of Tennessee Craft programs, artists, initiatives, and events.

Development Communications & Stakeholder Engagement (Approx. 10%)

  • Support donor communications, fundraising campaigns, sponsorship recognition, and stewardship initiatives.
  • Assist in developing donor-facing presentations, impact reports, sponsorship materials, and fundraising communications.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure sponsor and donor recognition requirements are fulfilled across all communications channels.

Events, Analytics & Marketing Operations (Approx. 10%)

  • Lead marketing and promotional efforts for Tennessee Craft Fairs, Tennessee Craft Week, exhibitions, educational programs, and membership initiatives.
  • Support on-site event operations, including staffing public-facing areas during major events and fairs.
  • Coordinate relationships with marketing vendors, contractors, photographers, videographers, printers, and other service providers.
  • Work collaboratively with staff on CRM, email marketing, audience segmentation, and constituent communications.
  • Track, analyze, and report on communications performance, audience growth, campaign results, website analytics, and engagement metrics to improve effectiveness and impact.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, nonprofit communications, arts administration, or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing social media platforms, email marketing campaigns, and digital content.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, volunteers, artists, donors, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, email marketing platforms, website content management systems, and marketing analytics tools.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree equivalent professional experience in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Arts Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit, arts, culture, or creative industries.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems such as Salesforce.
  • Graphic design, photography, video production, or related creative skills.
  • Passion for fine craft, arts education, Tennessee's cultural heritage, and the creative economy.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Hybrid work environment based in Nashville, Tennessee.
  • Must be available to work some evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight travel for events, meetings, programs, and statewide initiatives.
  • Participation in the setup, execution, and breakdown of events, including the Spring and Fall Tennessee Craft Fairs.
  • Ability to move and transport materials and event equipment up to 25 pounds.
