Job summary

Houstongrandopera seeks a Marketing Manager to help develop and manage an integrated multi-channel marketing campaign that supports subscription and single ticket sales. You will report to the Director of Marketing and assist in daily department operations.

The role requires at least five years in direct marketing or sales within performing arts or agency environments, with strong copywriting and data-management capabilities. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least five years in direct marketing or sales in performing arts or agency environment.
  • Ability to write, edit and proof marketing/sales copy.
  • Familiarity with customer retention databases (TESSITURA preferred).
  • Experience managing multi-channel advertising campaigns.
  • Supervisory experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute all ticket sales campaigns across direct mail, print, digital, and broadcast advertising, plus e-marketing and events.
  • Coordinate paid media partners, schedule and buy media, ensure timely delivery of creatives and analyze campaign metrics.
  • Manage in-house marketing team, consultants, agencies and vendors for production of sales campaign collateral including the annual season brochure.
  • Oversee comprehensive e-marketing strategy and provide design direction.
  • Manage sales leads for direct marketing campaigns and handle list management and hygiene.
  • Traffic creative work for internal approvals.
  • Track sales against goals and monitor paid media ROI.
  • Assist Director with marketing expense budget forecasting.
  • Supervise Marketing Coordinator and department administrative duties.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Marketing Director.

Job description

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Marketing Manager assists in the development, management and execution of an integrated multi-channel marketing campaign that supports subscription and single ticket sales. The Marketing Manager also assists the Director of Marketing in the overall daily operations of the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • With the Director of Marketing, develops and executes all ticket sales campaigns, including, but not limited to, direct mail, print, digital, and broadcast advertising, along with e-marketing and promotional events and activities.
  • Acts as main liaison between all paid media partners to schedule and buy all paid media, oversees the timely delivery of creative to media outlets, and analyzes all metrics following the campaign
  • Manages and coordinates the activities of the in-house marketing team, consultants, agencies and vendors for the production of all sales campaign collateral including the annual season brochure.
  • Oversees comprehensive e-marketing strategy and efforts, including copywriting and providing design direction
  • Manages sales leads for all single ticket direct marketing campaigns with data providers and is responsible for direct mail list management and hygiene.
  • Traffics creative work developed in-house or outsourced for internal corrections and approvals.
  • Tracks sales numbers against goals, and monitors all paid media efforts for ongoing ROI evaluation.
  • Assist Director of Marketing with marketing expense budget forecasting.
  • Supervises and manages the tasks and daily workflow of the Marketing Coordinator position
  • Marketing Coordinator is responsible for general department administrative duties including daily reports, part time payroll, coordinating the human resource details of the department etc.
  • Other duties as required and specified by the Marketing Director.

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years’ experience in direct marketing or sales in a performing arts or agency environment. Ability to write, edit and proof marketing/sales copy is a must. Knowledge of and proficiency with customer retention databases (TESSITURA preferred), Word and Excel knowledge required. Experience managing multi-channel advertising and promotional campaigns strongly preferred. Supervisory experience is a plus.

SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS

Applicant must be self-motivated and detail oriented; must organize and prioritize projects, meet deadlines and sustain productivity under pressure; must work some evenings and weekends. Proficiency with languages is a plus with preference given to Italian, German, French, Spanish and Asian languages. Experience in audience development and advertising is preferred as is a strong background or interest in opera and/or classical music.
