Job summary

BakerHostetler is seeking a Marketing professional to support the DADM group’s Advertising, Marketing and Digital Media (AMDM) team in Chicago. You will drive cross-selling to Emerging Technology and Privacy Governance teams while coordinating client events and thought leadership initiatives.

The role requires strong legal writing, multitasking, and the ability to craft impactful marketing campaigns in a fast-paced professional services environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field with 5+ years in professional services marketing.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to respond professionally to inquiries from all levels.
  • Proven ability to manage major projects and coordinate department resources.

Responsibilities

  • Support the AMDM team’s marketing efforts and identify client opportunities and reputation-building activities.
  • Provide cross-selling support to ETECH and PGTT teams, including Blockchain and AI initiatives.
  • Maintain knowledge of the legal market and DADM capabilities to maximize marketing initiatives.
  • Monitor client news and industry trends to suggest growth opportunities and plan events.
  • Manage RFP/proposal responses and prep for pitches with customized materials and knowledge sharing.
  • Plan and execute group client events (webinars, conferences, speaking engagements, sponsorships).
  • Collaborate with Public Relations to leverage media opportunities and maintain web content.

Job description

This position will be a point of contact for marketing activity related to the DADM group, and an integral part of the Business Development & Marketing department as a whole. This role will primarily support the DADM group’s Advertising, Marketing and Digital Media (AMDM) team; provide cross-selling support to the Emerging Technology (ETECH) and Privacy Governance and Tech Transactions (PGTT) teams; and assist with other group duties as assigned. Extremely high levels of creativity and attention to detail are required, as well as strong legal writing and proofreading skills. Must be comfortable multi-tasking, managing tight deadlines without compromising work quality, and working in a fast-paced environment for clients who have a wide variety of personalities and work styles.

This role requires individualized client service for the attorneys and must be proactive – not reactive – by bringing and implementing ideas that can yield a strategic impact.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the AMDM team’s marketing efforts as outlined in their strategic plan, including participating in relevant monthly team meetings and working with Team Leaders to identify and pursue client opportunities and reputation building activities that will make the teams more profitable.
  • Supporting cross‑selling support to the ETECH and PGTT teams, which include Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Maintaining a strong knowledge of the legal market and the DADM group capabilities of the firm nationwide, applying this knowledge to maximize the effectiveness of marketing initiatives.
  • Staying abreast of relevant client news and business/industry issue trends in order to suggest opportunities and approaches for client expansion or market penetration, including a weekly team newsletter, various events and other engagements.
  • Managing relevant RFP/proposal responses and pitch meeting preparations including the creation of customized materials and sharing of best practices in the BD & Marketing department’s knowledgebase.
  • Planning and executing group client events from start to follow up such as webinars, conferences, speaking engagements, sponsorships, and other events.
  • Working closely with the Public Relations team to identify and leverage media opportunities, maintain accurate and effective web content, publish effective and timely client alerts, and support firm blogs.
  • Assisting with Chambers, Legal 500, and other submissions to rankings and directories contributing to established goals and objectives.
  • Managing the production of marketing collateral, brochures, practice profiles, meeting placemats, announcements, invitations, etc.
  • Maintaining the Experience Database for significant matters.
  • Supporting the integration of lateral attorneys.
  • Assisting the DADM Group Chair and Senior Business Development & Marketing Manager where needed with group‑wide practice development projects and initiatives.
  • Liaising regularly with the BD & Marketing Department as a whole, the AMDM, ETECH, PGTT and other practice teams, and attorneys and team leaders of the DADM practice group.
  • Other duties as requested
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in professional services marketing. Law firm experience highly desirable. Interactive marketing experience is a plus for online activities.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills both oral and written. Ability to speak effectively and respond to common inquiries or complaints from all levels of professional and support staff, clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Interpersonal communication skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with partners, attorneys, clients and staff, and to exhibit a high degree of responsiveness, diplomacy and professionalism in these interactions. Demonstrated success strengthening corporate reputations and client relationships.
  • Proven ability to manage major projects, coordinating the use of department resources and involving senior management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Proven aptitude to learn new software applications.

The expected annual salary for this position ranges from $140,000-160,000. The salary offered will be determined by a wide range of factors including but not limited to experience level, education/training, and relevant skills.
