Job description

For over 17 years, PPM Solar has been Gainesville’s trusted solar energy company — designing, installing, and servicing solar and battery systems for homes, businesses, farms, and municipalities across Florida. We’ve served 1300+ customers, earned Gator 100 recognition four times as one of UF’s fastest-growing alumni‑led companies, and we believe that our mission is part of the solution for this Earth. Solar is our passion. A cleaner future is our mission. We’re looking for someone who feels that in their bones.

Position Overview

This isn’t a desk job. This isn’t scheduling social media posts. This is boots‑on‑the‑ground marketing — getting out into the Gainesville community. As our Marketing Intern, you’ll be the local face of PPM Solar. You’ll attend community events, visit active job sites, talk to real installers and real customers, and capture the authentic stories behind every solar project we build. You’ll help us grow our brand the old‑school way — through genuine relationships, grassroots outreach, and purpose‑driven storytelling. Would that be a quick pop‑in in the field to see a job in progress.

Responsibilities
  • Represent PPM Solar at local events — farmers markets, sustainability fairs, chamber meetings, home shows, and community gatherings
  • Visit active solar installation sites to photograph progress, interview crew members, and capture behind‑the‑scenes content
  • Create short‑form video and photo content featuring real customers, real team members, and real projects — no stock photos, no AI filler
  • Distribute marketing materials — brochures, flyers, and branded collateral throughout the Gainesville area
  • Develop and refine your elevator pitch — learn the financials, the technology, and the "why" behind solar so you can speak confidently to anyone
  • Support grassroots ("guerrilla") marketing campaigns — creative, low‑cost, high‑impact tactics that build community awareness
  • Gather market intelligence — observe competitors, note customer questions, bring ideas back to the team
  • Collaborate with our Marketing Director on content strategy and campaign execution
Qualifications
  • Purpose‑driven — You care about sustainability, clean energy, and making a tangible difference. This isn’t just a resume line for you.
  • Outgoing and personable — Comfortable walking up to strangers, starting conversations, and representing a brand in public
  • Self‑motivated — Give you a task and a direction, and you’ll make it happen
  • Curious about solar energy — You don’t need to be an expert (we’ll train you), but you should genuinely want to learn
  • Comfortable with a camera — Decent photos and short videos on a smartphone. Editing skills are a plus.
  • Reliable and punctual — Events and site visits happen on a schedule. We need someone who shows up.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled at UF, Santa Fe College, or similar — ideally studying marketing, sustainability, environmental science, communications, or a related field
  • Interest in renewable energy, environmental policy, or the clean energy industry
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (traveling to events and job sites around Gainesville and North Central FL)
  • Familiarity with short‑form content creation
What You’ll Gain
  • Hands‑on experience in a real, growing solar company — not a corporate internship where you fetch coffee
  • Direct mentorship from the company founder on the business, financials, and mechanics of the solar industry
  • A portfolio of real marketing work — content you created, events you ran, campaigns you helped build
  • Exposure to commercial and residential projects ranging from home installations to megawatt‑scale commercial systems and international projects
  • A tight‑knit team of people who take pride in what the build
Why this matters

The solar industry is at a critical inflection point. Policy is shifting. Technology is evolving. AI is about to consume more electricity than any prior technology, creating significant climate change issues. And your generation has the power to accelerate the transition to clean energy — not just by advocating for it, but by doing the work. If you’re the kind of person who’s tired of talking about change and ready to be part of it, we want to meet you.

  • Hands‑on learning experience.
  • Networking opportunities.
  • Potential for academic credit (if applicable).
  • Position Type: Internship (Part‑Time)
  • Location: In Office / Hybrid
