Job description

Marketing & Communications Manager

Full‑Time • Putney, Vermont • Reports to Executive Director

Next Stage Arts has a story that’s bigger than our concert calendar — and we haven’t fully told it yet. We work in schools, partner with community organizations, and create opportunities for things this region genuinely needs. Our programming ranges from world‑class touring artists to free community suppers, outdoor summer concerts to gallery openings. We’re looking for someone to help us tell that full picture: to build the narrative identity of an organization that is serious about the art it presents and equally serious about the community it serves — and to do it while continuing to fill our shows and grow our audiences.

Next Stage Arts is a nationally‑recognized rural arts presenter in Putney, Vermont — a 200‑seat performance space in a restored 1841 historic building, presenting over 100 events annually and running the Bandwagon Summer Series across Windham County. We have received national recognition from the National Endowment for the Arts and ArtPlace America.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
  • Developing and executing Next Stage’s marketing strategy across social, email, print, press, and paid advertising
  • Building and maintaining a forward‑looking communications calendar for every show and initiative
  • Designing all show posters, the monthly event mailer, and other print collateral in Canva and InDesign
  • Tracking marketing performance and using what you learn to make better creative and strategic decisions
  • Capturing photo and video content at events for social media, newsletters, and organizational storytelling
  • Administering our CRM (Little Green Light) and ticketing platform (VenuePilot)
  • Going beyond event promotion to tell the full story of Next Stage — our partnerships, our presence in schools, and our role as a gathering place for this community
  • Supporting light bar, finance, and operational tasks as part of a small staff
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL BRING
  • Genuine enthusiasm for the arts and an appreciation for what a presenting organization means to its community
  • Experience in marketing, communications, or a related field — we welcome candidates who have arrived at this work from non‑traditional backgrounds
  • Creative and strategic thinking: you consider what gets communicated when, where, and to whom
  • Comfort working with data and performance metrics as tools for better creative and strategic decisions
  • Strong design skills; proficiency in Canva and willingness to learn InDesign
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Slack, Monday.com, Mailchimp, Squarespace, Square, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Strong writing, strong interpersonal skills, and receptiveness to feedback
POSITION DETAILS
  • Full‑time, Tuesday–Saturday with flex scheduling; reports to Executive Director
  • Regular evening and weekend event attendance expected (typically six to eight events per month)
  • $40,000–$43,000 annually, commensurate with experience
  • Benefits include vision and dental insurance, two weeks paid vacation, 10 paid holidays (or comp days), and an organizational slow‑down between Christmas and New Year’s
  • On‑site in Putney, Vermont; anticipated start date: October 1, 2026
