Marketing Art Director (Freelance 3 months)

Assouline has established itself as the 'first brand of luxury culture,' with boutiques offering a luxurious environment to discover a world of taste, excitement, and intellect, where culture can be acquired. Customers can purchase complete book collections and objects suitable for contemporary libraries, such as perfumed candles and cabinets of curiosities.

As the first luxury brand to use books as a medium, Assouline Publishing has, for over fifteen years, created fine illustrated books dedicated to fashion, photography, art, and design. Known for our original graphic concepts, our books are works of art that capture and bring culture to life. This unique, eclectic, and elegant approach has established a recognizable and chic brand with a global presence through publications, special editions, and gift items.

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Marketing Art Director to lead a dynamic team of designers and elevate our brand's visual storytelling across digital and print platforms. This role combines creative leadership with hands-on design work, focusing on maintaining brand consistency and producing engaging content across all touchpoints. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of luxury, culture, and lifestyle trends, and the ability to inspire and mentor a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and mentor a team of 2 designers, providing guidance, feedback, and support for their professional growth.
  2. Develop and execute innovative visual concepts for marketing campaigns across digital, print, and social media, aligned with business goals.
  3. Ensure cohesive, on-brand visual storytelling across all digital platforms, including websites, Culture Lounge digital magazine and podcast, social media, digital ads, email, SMS campaigns, and the Amazon storefront.
  4. Collaborate with stakeholders such as the Marketing Director, editorial team, and web design agency to define and implement creative strategies that drive engagement and sales, ensuring a seamless and sophisticated UX/UI.
  5. Partner with the photo team to select, crop, and showcase impactful imagery, enhancing visual appeal across media.
  6. Review and approve design projects, providing constructive feedback to uphold high standards and ensure timely delivery.
  7. Manage project timelines, resources, and performance metrics, making data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
  8. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging digital design practices, and technologies, integrating them into marketing efforts to keep the brand at the forefront of luxury digital media.

Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of experience in digital design/art direction, preferably within the luxury media industry.
  2. Strong understanding of luxury, culture, and lifestyle trends.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  4. A robust portfolio demonstrating expertise in digital design, including web, mobile, social media, and digital advertising.
  5. Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects), Sketch, Figma, or similar platforms.
  6. Proven experience in managing and optimizing design processes, including resource allocation and timeline management.
