Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwestern North Carolina is seeking a Marketing & Communications Manager to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy that strengthens brand, engages donors and elevates program impact across six counties.

The role collaborates with Resource Development, Operations and Programs to ensure consistent messaging, compelling campaigns and a strong online presence. Expect hands-on content creation, event support and strategic communications leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive marketing and communications experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and communications skills with demonstrated ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube for an organization or brand.
  • Strong graphic design skills and proficiency with Canva; Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred.
  • Experience with website content management, email marketing platforms and digital analytics.
  • Familiarity with CRM/dund donor communications preferred.
  • Ability to use contemporary digital marketing and productivity tools effectively, including AI-assisted tools.

Responsibilities

Title: Marketing & Communications Manager

Department: Resource Development

Reports To: Vice President of Resource Development

Hours: FT Exempt/Salaried

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Marketing & Communications Manager develops and executes an integrated marketing and communications strategy that strengthens awareness of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwestern North Carolina (BGCSENC), communicates the impact of our programs, engages donors and community partners, and supports organizational fundraising and strategic priorities. As a key member of the Resource Development team, this position serves as BGCSENC's primary brand steward and manages digital communications, social media, website content, email communications, podcasts, marketing collateral, public relations and donor stewardship communications.

The Marketing & Communications Manager works collaboratively with Resource Development, Community Engagement, Operations, Programs and organizational leadership to ensure BGCSENC communicates a consistent and compelling story across our six-county service area.

KEY ROLES & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Marketing & Communications Strategy
  • Develop and execute an annual Marketing & Communications Plan aligned with BGCSENC's organizational, programmatic and Resource Development priorities.
  • Review and update the plan quarterly based on organizational priorities, upcoming campaigns, events and performance results.
  • Develop and maintain an annual communications calendar that incorporates fundraising campaigns, programs, special events, stewardship, and organizational announcements.
  • Develop communications strategies for major fundraising initiatives, events, program launches and other organizational priorities.
2. Social Media & Digital Engagement
  • Develop, create, schedule and publish engaging content across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok according to established weekly posting standards.
  • Maintain a social media content calendar incorporating Club impact, donor and partner recognition, programs, fundraising, events and organizational news.
  • Create platform-appropriate graphics, short-form video, reels and other digital content using stories, photography and information provided by the Community Engagement Manager and other BGCSENC staff.
  • Monitor social media performance and engagement and use analytics to continually improve content, reach and audience growth.
3. Brand Management & Marketing Materials
  • Serve as BGCSENC's primary brand steward, ensuring consistent application of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and BGCSENC brand standards across all communications.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality print and digital marketing materials supporting programs, fundraising, events, partnerships and organizational initiatives.
  • Maintain organizational templates for presentations, one-pagers, sponsorship materials, reports, signage and other commonly used communications.
  • Review organizational marketing materials for brand consistency, accuracy and quality.
4. Resource Development & Donor Stewardship Communications
  • Partner with the Chief Development Officer and Resource Development team to develop communications supporting donor acquisition, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Assist with the development of quarterly program and impact updates to support stewardship plans for individual, corporate and foundation donors.
  • Develop donor-facing materials including impact updates, one-pagers, presentations, campaign communications and partner recognition.
  • Support communications for annual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation relations, planned giving and year-end fundraising initiatives.
5. Website & Email Communications
  • Manage and regularly update the BGCSENC website to ensure content is accurate, engaging, current and aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Develop and distribute organizational newsletters, fundraising emails and other targeted email communications.
  • Create and update program, fundraising, event and campaign web content and landing pages as needed.
  • Monitor website and email performance and use analytics to improve engagement and effectiveness.
6. YouTube, Club Kid Podcasts & Executive Engagement
  • Manage and maintain the BGCSENC YouTube channel, including publishing and promoting Club Kid Podcasts and other video content.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and execution of Club Kid Podcast visits with local business executives, donors and community leaders.
  • Manage guest preparation, scheduling, Club coordination, publication and follow-up communications associated with podcast visits.
  • Develop and maintain an annual podcast calendar and promote episodes through BGCSENC's digital communications channels.
7. Public Relations & Media Relations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional media throughout BGCSENC's six-county service area.
  • Identify newsworthy programs, partnerships, youth achievements, organizational milestones and events and proactively pitch appropriate stories.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, talking points and other media materials as appropriate.
  • Coordinate media interviews and appearances and track significant earned media coverage.
8. Events & Campaign Communications
  • Develop marketing and communications plans for major BGCSENC fundraising events, community events and organizational campaigns.
  • Create digital and print materials including invitations, signage, sponsorship materials, social media content, email campaigns and presentations.
  • Coordinate pre-event, event-day and post-event communications, including sponsor and donor recognition.
9. Analytics & Performance Reporting
  • Establish and track key performance indicators for BGCSENC marketing and communications activities.
  • Monitor social media engagement, audience growth, website traffic, email performance, digital campaigns and earned media.
  • Provide a monthly Marketing & Communications Dashboard to the Chief Development Officer highlighting results, trends and recommended adjustments.
10. Collaboration & Project Management
  • Work collaboratively with Resource Development, Community Engagement, Programs, Operations and executive leadership to identify communications priorities and manage projects.
  • Establish timelines and processes for organizational marketing requests and ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Coordinate outside designers, printers, photographers, videographers and other communications vendors as needed.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive marketing and communications experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and communications skills with demonstrated ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and YouTube for an organization or brand.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with donors, executives, board members, corporate partners and community leaders.
  • Familiarity with CRM/fundraising databases and donor communications preferred.
  • Ability to use contemporary digital marketing and productivity tools effectively, including AI-assisted tools, while maintaining standards for accuracy, confidentiality, brand voice, and appropriate review.
  • Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends for events and other organizational needs.
