Job summary

Caring for Kids is seeking a Marketing and Communications Assistant to support the Program Director of Agency Development and Community Engagement. The role includes creating digital content, managing social media, and assisting with print marketing, website oversight, and project-based work.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in marketing, communications, social media, PR, or related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging digital content.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of branding, audience engagement, and community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage social media and digital content to raise awareness of the organization and its programs.
  • Lead marketing and communications efforts focused on foster parent recruitment.
  • Educate the community about foster care and adoption, including realities and needs.
  • Create donor appeals and fundraising content for campaigns.
  • Develop content for awareness months and observances.
  • Create newsletters and marketing materials for mission-focused communications.
  • Attend events and capture photos/videos with consent for reuse.
  • Increase visibility through community outreach, events, partnerships, and digital platforms.
  • Share stories and resources that engage youth, families, donors, and community members.
  • Ensure consistency in voice, branding, and posting cadence across channels.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Solicit donations, sponsorships, and partnerships for fundraisers.

The Marketing and Communications Assistant serves as an assistant to the Program Director of Agency Development and Community Engagement. Full time, part time, or contracted applicants will be considered. This role will build relationships with potential and existing stakeholders through social media networks, online platforms, in-person events, print marketing, and other methods of outreach. Duties include, but are not limited to, social media and print-based design, maintenance and engagement, website oversight and project-based work. This person must exhibit a professional agency image through in-person and virtual interactions.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage social media and digital content that builds awareness of the organization, its mission, programs, and services.
  • Lead marketing and communications efforts focused on foster parent recruitment and the urgent need for foster families.
  • Educate the community about foster care and adoption, including realities, myths, needs, and opportunities to get involved.
  • Create monthly and season-specific donor appeals and fundraising content highlighting current organizational needs, (ie: back-to-school, holiday, and yearend campaigns), while communicating impact and inviting community support.
  • Develop content for key awareness months and observances.
  • Create newsletters, publications, marketing materials, and other mission-focused communications.
  • Attend and photograph/video agency events and establish and maintain an archive of photos and consents for agency use.
  • Increase the organization's visibility and brand awareness through community outreach, events, partnerships, and digital platforms.
  • Share stories, resources, and educational content that engage youth, families, foster parents, donors, and community members.
  • Ensure consistency in terms of voice, branding, messaging, and frequency of posting via digital and print channels of communication.
  • Develop working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Solicit donations, corporate sponsorships and partnerships for agency fundraisers.
  • Assist in donor and volunteer management.
  • Assist in grant writing by providing supplementary materials as needed.
  • Create and edit agency videos when needed.
  • Support staff in assigned project-based work and attend/support fundraisers and events involving the development and community engagement team.
  • Assist with other administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of experience in marketing, communications, social media, public relations, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, storytelling, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging digital content.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of branding, audience engagement, and community outreach.
  • Proficiency with Canva and common social media platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
