Job description

Position Summary

The Marketing & Advancement Manager supports the day-to-day execution of Theater Alliance's marketing, communications, and development work. This is a hands‑on execution role for someone who is organized, creative, and energized by the details that make an organization's public presence feel consistent and alive.

This role works across marketing execution and development support – maintaining social media, coordinating email campaigns, supporting patron communications, assisting with donor tracking, and helping keep the advancement systems running smoothly. The Marketing & Advancement Manager is not setting strategy; they are making sure the strategy lands. They are a reliable, detail‑oriented team member who takes pride in work that is timely, accurate, and on-brand.

Theater Alliance is a service organization. The Marketing & Advancement Manager understands that every post, every email, every donor acknowledgment exists to serve artists and community – and brings that ethic to their work.

Responsibilities:
Marketing Execution
  • Schedule and publish social media content across all Theater Alliance platforms, following the content calendar
  • Draft and send email campaigns and newsletters using the organization's email platform, per approved templates and direction
  • Update website content: event listings, cast pages, production information, and organizational updates
  • Support graphic design needs using approved templates; coordinate with outside designers as needed
  • Monitor social media channels and engage with community responses, comments, and messages
  • Support press coordination: distribute press releases, maintain press contact lists, and track coverage
  • Capture and organize production and event photography and video for use across channels
Development Support
  • Support donor acknowledgment: prepare and send thank you letters, tax receipts, and gift confirmations in EvolvArts
  • Assist with donor database maintenance: data entry, record updates, and list management in EvolvArts
  • Support development events: logistics assistance, RSVP tracking, materials preparation, and day‑of support
  • Assist with grant support: compiling program data, gathering documentation, and supporting narrative preparation as directed
  • Track and report on basic marketing and development metrics: email open rates, social reach, donor acknowledgment turnaround
Cross-Functional & Organizational Responsibilities
  • Show up as a welcoming and professional presence for everyone who interacts with Theater Alliance; theater is a service industry and every member of the team is a representative of the organization
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, organizational planning, company events, opening nights, and all-hands gatherings
  • Contribute to organizational culture, process improvement, and institutional knowledge‑building
  • Align your work with the Root & Rise Strategic Action Plan: know the goals, understand how your work serves them, and actively lead your team toward them
  • 10% of this role is floating and cross-functional, available for organizational needs as assigned by Leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

We value demonstrated ability and relevant experience over credentials.

  • Experience in marketing, communications, or development support — professional, volunteer, or internship experience all count
  • Strong written communication skills: ability to write clearly, on-brand, and for multiple audiences
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content scheduling tools
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or comparable)
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable — you meet deadlines and flag problems before they become emergencies
  • Commitment to Theater Alliance's justice-driven, community-rooted mission and values
  • A genuine team orientation and spirit of partnership — with internal colleagues and external stakeholders alike
  • Commitment to the idea that theater is a service industry, and that the work we do exists to serve our community, our artists, and the world around us
  • Experience with EvolvArts, Salesforce, or a comparable CRM
  • Basic graphic design skills — Canva, Adobe Suite, or comparable
  • Experience in or genuine interest in the performing arts or nonprofit sector
  • Familiarity with press and media relations
What Success Looks Like
  • Social media is posting consistently, on brand, and on schedule, no errors, and no missed engagement or communication
  • Email campaigns go out on time and look right
  • Donor acknowledgments are sent promptly and accurately
  • The Theater Alliance team can rely on this role to execute without having to supervise every detail
  • Theater Alliance's public presence feels consistent, warm, and alive, and this role is part of why
