Who We Are

The American Shakespeare Center (ASC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Staunton, Virginia, home to the world’s first re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre, the Blackfriars Playhouse. We produce year-round performances, education programs, and community events that bring people together in shared light—artists and audiences sharing the same illuminated space, responding to the story together in real time.

About the Position

You’ll support the daily operations of ASC’s Marketing and Development (now combined as Patron Loyalty Team) departments, helping keep communications, content, and department requests organized and on schedule. This role focuses on social media scheduling, basic audience engagement, digital asset organization, content support for productions and programs, and managing the Marketing@ inbox.

You’ll work closely with the Communications Manager and Multimedia Content Creator to support communications for Blackfriars Playhouse productions, ASC Theatre Camps & Clubs, and other programs throughout the year. The ideal candidate is organized, reliable, comfortable with digital tools, and excited to support story-driven, community-centered theatre.

Core Responsibilities
Social Media Management & Engagement
  • Schedule posts across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and LinkedIn using native platform tools.
  • Monitor comments, messages, and tags; respond in ASC’s voice and redirect patrons’ concerns as needed.
  • Assist the communication manager and content creator with drafting and proofreading short captions and alt text for scheduled posts.
  • Gather and organize user-generated content (UGC) and partner mentions.
  • Track social-related tasks and deadlines using Google Workspace or Asana.
Digital Asset Organization
  • Organize, tag, rename, and archive photos, videos, graphics, and marketing files following ASC naming conventions.
  • Maintain seasonal content folders and ensure materials are accessible to teams across ASC, as well as the public image gallery.
  • Pull visual assets for social media, promotions, and internal communications.
Content Support & Photo/Video Assistance
  • Assist with seasonal photoshoots and production photography sessions.
  • Support rehearsal and on-site content capture with the Communications Manager and Multimedia Content Creator.
  • Assist with archival filming during the opening weekend of each production.
  • Capture phone-level photos and videos for social media and evergreen content needs.
  • Support content gathering for Playhouse programming, ASC Theatre Camps & Clubs, and seasonal productions.
Marketing Inbox & Request Coordination
  • Manage and organize the Marketing@americanshakespearecenter.com inbox using ASC’s established workflow.
  • Sort and route incoming requests; track deadlines and follow up on outstanding items.
  • Communicate professionally with internal departments and community partners.
  • Log and track communication-related requests in Google Workspace or Asana.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive donor, financial, and internal communications.
  • Maintain the Master Marketing & Development Calendar and support the Communications Manager’s scheduling needs, including meeting coordination and tracking deadlines.
Analytics, Planning & Research
  • Pull monthly social media analytics and prepare simple summary reports.
  • Assist with documenting seasonal content plans and timelines.
  • Participate in annual and seasonal content planning sessions; take notes and organize action items.
  • Conduct light research on marketing, communications, and social media trends.
