Job summary

Argus Media in Pittsburgh is seeking an early-career market reporter to cover steel and ferrous scrap markets. You will report daily, develop sources, and analyze market data to produce timely news, assessments and insights for Argus reports.

You will build industry relationships, attend events and collaborate with other reporters to expand Argus coverage. A journalism background and solid writing skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field.
  • Proven ability to develop, source and write industry-relevant news to deadline.
  • Knowledge of commodity markets is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess markets to produce weekly and monthly price assessments, market commentaries, news, analysis and reports.
  • Curate data and maintain and analyse existing data series to inform coverage and develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysis.
  • Develop an understanding of relevant commodity markets, working with other Argus teams to produce joint content.
  • Regular meetings and daily communication with key industry members to build relationships and gather news.
  • Contribute copy to relevant daily and periodical publications and the online news service, and contribute to special content and presentations as required.
  • Work with other departments to promote the use of Argus price assessments and help develop new pricing tools for battery metals markets.

Argus is seeking a market reporter to join its Pittsburgh-based team covering steel and ferrous scrap markets. You will apply and develop your skills through daily news reporting, market analysis and source development in this fast-paced environment with the highest standards of journalistic independence and integrity.

You willcover these markets through weekly and monthly price assessments, writing interesting, analytical market commentaries, news coverage and in-depth analysis toappearonline and in daily Argus reports. You will also be responsible for maintaining and expanding the contactbase, attending conferences and leading efforts to expand Argus coverage of key metals markets. You will work in tandem withotherreporters and editors who will provide training and support to develop in-depth knowledge of the markets.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Attendmeetings,conferencesand industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry
What We’re Looking For In You
  • A graduate with a strong degree, with a preference for journalism
  • Proven ability to develop, source and write industry-relevant news to deadline
  • Knowledge ofcommodity markets is preferred
  • Excellent writing,grammarand numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process)
  • Ability to use data in generating stories and analysis is preferred, whileawillingness to learn is essential
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to network and build contacts with industry executives. Strong presentation skills also preferred.
  • Prior experience of working in the financial or energy journalism sector is useful but not essential
  • Strong co-ordinationand time management skills with the ability to work well within a team
  • Additional languages useful but not essential
  • Demonstrable interest in global business and politics
  • Self-motivated, able to use initiative andequipped withan inquisitive nature
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a close-knit team is essential
