Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line in Cairo, IL is seeking a Laborer/Welder to assist in cleaning cargo hoppers and barge exteriors and perform welding and fitting in repairs. This full-time role includes safety training and on-the-job skill development, with a $1,000 signing bonus after 90 working days.

Responsibilities include adhering to safety protocols, cleaning tasks, record-keeping, teamwork, pumping water, shingling, and performing various welding tasks on barges and vessels.

Qualifications

• Must live 50 miles or less from our Convent fleet location.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver's license.
• Physical stamina to perform welding tasks.
• Ability to weld with stick fed welders.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety protocols and wear PPE as required.
• Clean barges and cargo hoppers so they are ready for loading.
• Maintain records of cleaning activities and report incidents.
• Collaborate with team to meet quality standards.
• Pump water from void compartments and hoppers.
• Assist with shingling and temporary repairs for watertight integrity.
• Perform welding and fitting in barge and vessel repairs.
• Assist in construction/repair of special projects.
• Assist in maintenance and safety audits.
