Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line seeks a Laborer/Welder to join our Convent fleet operations. Full-time role requiring welding experience to clean cargo hoppers and barge exteriors for loading. A $1,000 signing bonus is offered after 90 working days.

Responsibilities include safety adherence, cleaning tasks, welding/fitting repairs, maintenance, and supportive repairs to ensure watertight vessels. Teamwork and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• Must live within 50 miles of our Convent fleet location.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver's license.
• Physical stamina to perform welding tasks.
• Ability to weld with stick-fed welders.
• Ability to perform job tasks as assigned by foreman / supervisor.
• Strong attention to detail and precision.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Strong work ethic and team player.
• Proficiency in various welding techniques.
• Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
• Understand safety procedures and follow guidelines.
• Must signal crane operator during lifting/moving loads.
• Must complete Powered Industrial Operators class before operating front-end loaders/tractors/forklifts.
• Must complete Rigger Training before rigging loads.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to safety protocols and wear PPE.
• Clean barges and exteriors so they are ready for loading.
• Maintain records of cleaning activities and report incidents.
• Collaborate with team to ensure smooth operations and quality.
• Pump water from void compartments and hoppers.
• Assist with shingling and temporary repairs for watertight integrity.
• Perform welding and fitting repairs on barges and vessels.
• Assist in construction/repair of special projects.
• Perform preventative and routine maintenance on equipment.
• Support safety audits/inspections of the work area.
• Cut out and replace damaged steel sections.
• Gouge, weld fractures, fit plates and structures.
• Conduct confined space atmospheric tests.

What you will be doing... Your IMPACT

• Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues. Wear personal protective equipment as required.
• Work efficiently and effectively to complete cleaning tasks in a timely manner, ensuring that barges are ready for cargo loading as scheduled.
• Maintain records of cleaning activities and report any incidents, accidents, or issues to your supervisor.
• Collaborate with other team members and supervisors to ensure that cleaning operations run smoothly and meet quality standards.
• Pump water from void compartments and hoppers of company owner and operated equipment.
• Assists with shingling of barges and other types of temporary repairs to ensure watertight integrity of floating equipment.
• Performs welding and fitting skills in the repair of barges and vessels.
• Assists with construction / repair of special projects.
• Assists in performing preventative and routine maintenance on equipment and machinery.
• Assists in performing safety audits / inspections of work area.
• Cutout and replaces sections of damaged steel.
• Gouge, weld fractures, fit formed plates and structures.
• Conducts confined space atmospheric tests.

What we are looking for...

You will need to have:

• Must successfully complete Powered Industrial Operators class prior to operating any front-end loaders, tractors or forklifts.
• Must successfully complete Rigger Training before being allowed to rig load for crane to lift and move.
• Must be able to understand written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
