Job summary

Lindblad Expeditions is seeking a Manager, Quality, Health, Safety and Security (QHSS) to oversee fleetwide safety, regulatory compliance, and emergency response programs. The role includes audits, investigations, and maintenance of SMS and Vessel Security Plans.

The position serves as Deputy Company Security Officer, supports ISM/DP Ashore duties, and participates in Emergency Response Team activities. Hybrid schedule requires 3 days in Seattle and 2 remote.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in maritime safety, security, regulatory compliance, vessel operations, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of the ISM Code, ISPS Code, MLC, and applicable U.S. Coast Guard safety and security requirements.
  • 3+ years experience conducting or supporting maritime safety, security, compliance, or management-system audits.
  • Experience investigating accidents, incidents, near misses, and non-conformities, including root-cause analysis and corrective-action development.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical policies, procedures, training, and operational guidance.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience compiling safety and compliance data, monitoring KPIs, identifying trends, and preparing executive reports or presentations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with vessel personnel, shoreside leaders, regulatory agencies, and external partners.
  • Experience with MS Office, Teams, SharePoint; Power Platform tools is preferred.
  • Qualification or experience as Vessel Security Officer or Designated Person Ashore or Maritime Internal Auditor is preferred.
  • Experience as a licensed crew member aboard a U.S.-flagged vessel or delivering approved maritime or STCW training is preferred.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and travel to vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Quality: Manage collection and analysis of health and safety data for KPI Scorecard and monthly executive reports.
  • Monitor performance trends and provide timely reporting on safety, health, audit and compliance indicators.
  • Prepare and distribute fleetwide safety communications and lessons learned with recommended actions.
  • Health: Review medical logs and injury investigations; communicate findings to CMO.
  • Investigate health incidents and develop corrective-action plans with vessel and shoreside teams.
  • Oversee fleet reporting for communicable diseases and health authorities’ requirements.
  • Monitor fleet-wide health inspections and ensure regulatory compliance with various teams.
  • Safety: Develop and maintain the Safety Management System; manage manuals and emergency plans.
  • Plan Emergency Response Team exercises and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Conduct internal and external SMS audits and report significant findings.
  • Monitor accidents, near misses and non-conformities and drive investigations and corrective actions.
  • Security: Serve as Deputy Company Security Officer and manage Vessel Security Plans.
  • Conduct Vessel Security Assessments and audits; address deficiencies.
  • Monitor security plan reviews, drills, and system tests for compliance.
  • Communicate changes in security levels and coordinate training for security responsibilities.
  • Compliance and Training: Train as Deputy Designated Person Ashore and support investigations.
  • Serve as ISM auditor and track audit findings and closure of corrective actions.
  • Instruct approved security STCW courses and assist with other training programs.
  • Assist fleet training administration, compliance reporting, and use of MS Teams, SharePoint, Power Automate, and Power BI.
