Job summary

Kirby Corporation in the United States seeks a Logistics Management Port Captain to oversee safety performance, operational compliance, and relationships with charter vessel companies supporting Kirby operations.

This role serves as a liaison between Kirby, charter vessel owners, and vessel crews to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient marine operations. It involves travel to vessels and facilities and requires strong SMS understanding and safety leadership.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of vessel navigation and management practices; Wheelman license preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of cargo transfer operations; Tankerman license with DL and LG endorsements preferred but not required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Charter Owner Company management and SMS.
• Evaluate vessel performance and collaborate on corrective action and improvement plans.
• Conduct quarterly performance and safety review meetings with charter vessel owners.
• Perform vessel visits including safety meetings, audits, and safety observations.
• Coordinate vessel repair plans with owners and communicate impacts to Kirby traffic and operations.
• Respond to marine incidents and act as on-scene Incident Commander when assigned.
• Investigate incidents and recommend fleet-wide improvements.
• Deliver presentations to charter vessel owners and participate in committees.
