Job summary

American Commercial Barge Line is seeking hard-working laborers to clean cargo hoppers and barge exteriors in Cairo, IL. You will follow safety protocols, operate basic equipment, and support maintenance and temporary repairs to ensure barges are ready for loading.

Eligible applicants will have a valid driver's license, 18+ years of age, and must live within 50 miles of the Cairo fleet. A $1,000 signing bonus is offered after 90 working days, with on-the-job training and strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must understand and be able to signal crane operator.
• Must successfully complete Powered Industrial Operators class before operating equipment.
• Must successfully complete Rigger Training before rigging loads.

Responsibilities

• Assist in cleaning cargo hoppers and exterior surfaces of barges to prepare for cargo loading.
• Adhere to safety protocols and wear PPE as required.
• Maintain records of cleaning activities and report incidents to supervisor.
• Collaborate with team to ensure efficient and quality cleaning operations.
• Operate or assist with front-end loaders, tractors, and forklifts as directed.
• Assist with shingling and temporary repairs to ensure watertight integrity.
• Support in construction/repair of special projects and routine maintenance.
• Conduct safety audits and confined space atmospheric tests.
