Job summary

Living Classrooms Foundation seeks an Educator/Deckhand to support Maritime Education programs on vessels such as Lady Maryland, Sigsbee, or Mildred Belle. The role requires high energy, dedication, flexibility, and strong work ethic to lead programs and maintain vessel safety.

Responsibilities include teaching, coordinating with staff, assisting with ship operations, and participating in maintenance during yard periods.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
• Passion for nature and working with children in informal settings.
• Must be willing to submit to pre-employment drug testing and background check.
• COVID-19 vaccination required by hire date.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and supervise safe and successful educational programs with assistance from onboard staff.
• Familiarize with safety/emergency protocols and procedures.
• Work professionally with staff and students; address conflicts promptly.
• Assist with planning and with land-based program components.
• Help with ship operations including line/sail handling and navigation.
• Maintain equipment and education supplies; present professionally as a Living Classrooms representative.
