Job summary

Ocean Aero is seeking a General Robotics/Autonomy Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and document autonomy software for its autonomous maritime systems. You will work with a team of engineers on software development, simulation, modeling, system integration, and analysis of vehicle behavior under normal and degraded conditions, reporting to the Software Engineer Lead.

Qualifications

• B.S. from an accredited university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics or Physics is required.
• Broad technical experience with robotics/autonomy software systems and system integration.
• Experience developing production-quality software in Python, C++, on Linux with automated tests and version control.
• Experience with simulation/modeling for robotic or vehicle systems, including HIL/SIL testing.

Responsibilities

• Integrate with autonomy and software teams across the SDLC.
• Design, develop, test, and document autonomy software for mission planning, vehicle behaviors, navigation, and system health management.
• Develop and maintain simulation and modeling tools for vehicle dynamics, environmental conditions, and sensor/actuator behavior.
• Build redundancy and fault tolerance into autonomous behaviors and mission execution logic.
• Develop fault detection, isolation, and recovery strategies for long-duration missions.
• Test and troubleshoot in simulation, hardware-in-the-loop environments, and the field.
• Create and analyze metrics, logs, and post-mission data for reliability improvement and risk management.
• Collaborate across teams to plan, build, test and demonstrate technology.
• Provide critical analysis and technical documentation.
