Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a senior robotics/ autonomy engineer to advance multi‑platform autonomy for unmanned systems. You will design, implement, and validate advanced motion planning, perception, and decision‑making algorithms, working across simulation, testing, and real‑world deployments.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years of relevant experience, strong C++/Python skills, and a background in unmanned systems with DoD or government program familiarity.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 7 years with a Bachelor’s, 6 years with a Master’s, or 4 years with a PhD; equivalent experience accepted.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python; familiarity with RTOS.

Responsibilities

• Robust motion planning and autonomy development for unmanned platforms.
• Localization and tracking using advanced sensor fusion and observability.
• Safe maritime operations and COLREGs adherence in autonomous contexts.
• Develop distributed optimization and task allocation for multi-agent systems.
• Software development with strong interfaces and testability; prepare for high TRL insertions.
• Cross-functional collaboration with perception, planning, simulation, hardware, and test teams.
• Deploy autonomy capabilities to real platforms and support integration/demos.
• Contribute to autonomy roadmaps and prototyping of new algorithms.
