Job summary

ABS is seeking an Engineer II in Houston to perform engineering design review and analysis, handling significant projects with minimal supervision. You will provide technical guidance, resolve complex design issues, and ensure compliance with ABS Rules and contracts.

The role emphasizes collaboration with field operations, timely reporting, and ongoing adherence to ABS Quality System training. A strong background in civil/structural/ocean engineering and software proficiency is expected.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Civil, Structural, Naval Architecture, Ocean Eng or related disciplines.
• Masters/PhD graduates may be hired as Engineer II if degrees are field-specific.
• Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.
• Exposure to Finite Element Method (course work or research).
• Two years as Engineer I or equivalent industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed engineering review of plans for compliance with ABS Rules and contracts.
• Provide technical advice to field operations and other technical offices.
• Address moderately complex problems involving design requirements or material standards.
• Propose new approaches and recommendations for changes in methods or designs.
• Draft accurate weekly reports and respond to correspondence in a timely manner.
• Interact with clients to identify and resolve technical issues.
• Communicate workload status to team members to meet client needs.
• Work autonomously within the group as needed and adhere to ABS Quality System.
