Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking a skilled metal fabricator-welder to assemble, cut, and grind structural parts for shipbuilding. You will align parts, tack and weld foundational members, and follow blueprints for accurate placement.

The role requires two years’ experience, a T-1 welding certificate, and the ability to read and interpret safety instructions in English. You will work at heights and in confined spaces, using cranes and rigging as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of on the job experience, demonstrated knowledge of blueprint reading, ship terminology and different metals required.
• Good burning, welding and craftsmanship skills.
• Mechanical ability.
• Ability to pass hands on assessment test conducted by NASSCO.
• Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English).
• Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.

Responsibilities

• Lay out work from blueprint.
• Cut, burn, grind, fit metal structural parts for ship placement.
• Tack and weld foundation and structural members.
• Operate high-reach equipment including condors, sky climbers, scissors lift.
• Set up tools and equipment at job site; clean up scrap.
• Operate overhead cranes and use rigging equipment.
• Other duties as assigned relevant to the trade.
