Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking a skilled marine trades technician to inspect and repair shipyard equipment and facilities. The role involves mechanical and electrical maintenance, underwater work, welding, cutting, and fabricating metal structures aboard ships and barges.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, CFR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 30 days, and pass T1 Welding School within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CFR/First Aid certification or able to pass within 30 days.
• Must be able to pass T1 Welding School within 90 days.
• Burning, welding, craftsmanship and mechanical skills preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces; able to work any shift.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment to ensure safe and reliable operations.
• Perform equipment services and repairs using pumps, hand tools, pneumatic tools, and other power tools.
• Perform underwater inspections and repairs on SCUBA or Surface Supplied Air, including cutting, burning, grinding, and fabricating metal structures.
• Repair buildings, structures, production equipment, and portable production support equipment onboard ships and in facilities.
• Operate aerial equipment such as condensors, scissor lifts, overhead cranes, forklifts, trucks and boats.
• Complete reports and documents such as work orders and inspection forms.
• Other tasks may be assigned relevant to the trade.
