Job summary

Safe Harbor Marinas is seeking a Service Manager for the marina in Grand Haven, MI. The role oversees the service department, schedules maintenance, and leads technicians to ensure timely, quality work on vessels.

You will report to the General Manager and collaborate with a dynamic marina team. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in service management, ABYC or equivalent certifications, strong leadership, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant service management experience preferred.
  • ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to lead and develop service teammates and coordinate with a marina team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and service scheduling tools

Responsibilities

  • Interpret the needs of SHM members and vessels and determine maintenance schedules.
  • Provide clear work orders and instructions for technicians.
  • Manage service department teammates and equipment to meet targets.
  • Communicate with boat owners regarding service needs and timelines; resolve issues.
  • Provide repair estimates, maintain customer satisfaction, and coordinate with the General Manager.

The Service Manager is responsible for managing service department and service teammates. The Service Manager will manage requirements of the service department to successfully achieve objectives and ensure service work is performed in a timely & efficient manner. The Service Manager reports to the General Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interpret the needs of SHM members and all vessels
  • Determine maintenance needs and schedule all service work
  • Provide clear and precise instructions on work orders for technicians
  • Manage all service department teammates and equipment
Communicate with boat owners regarding service needs and timelines.

Resolve customer concerns and service-related issues.

Provide repair estimates and explain technical findings.

Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.

  • Estimate cost of repairs
  • Provide timely updates and take initiative to exceed member satisfaction, even if it requires overcoming challenges
  • Coordinate and manage activities of workers engaged in repairing, painting, and otherwise restoring vessels to seaworthy condition
  • Hire, train, motivate, mentor, and evaluate teammates while also leading by example
  • Follow and promote a safe working environment
  • Assist with repairing vessels as needed
  • Coordinate with General Manager to ensure that the financial obligations of the service department are met
  • Set and meet ongoing goals of service department & marina
  • Available to work overtime as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.
Technical and Physical Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5 years’ relevant experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • ABYC and/or manufacturer certifications preferred
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
  • Must carry own tools
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Basic boat handling skills a plus
  • Any skills considered standard that a Service Manager should possess
