Job summary

THOR Solutions is seeking a mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Propulsion) to support the USCG Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. The role focuses on propulsion systems, machinery arrangements, weight assessments, and trade studies, with an opportunity to contribute to ship design and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates will have ABET-accredited engineering degrees, 3–5 years of marine mechanical experience, and familiarity with ABS/NVR standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited institution.
  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
  • At least 3 years developing ship propulsion and control systems, machinery arrangements, weight assessments, and trade studies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and documentation for the design and operation of marine vessels and propulsion systems.
  • Develop and research ship propulsion systems including diesels, gas turbines, diesel-electric systems, propellers, rudders, thrusters, gears, shafts, seals, noise and vibration.
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct propulsion analyses and lead the development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Perform trade studies regarding ship configuration.
