Job summary

Austal USA in Mobile, AL seeks a skilled B-class pipe welder to join a team of welders and fitters. You will read drawings, pass required weld tests, and ensure quality while maintaining a safe, organized work environment on marine vessels.

You must have experience in the trade, be able to follow directions with limited supervision, and be willing to develop other team members. Overtime may be required to meet vessel delivery goals.

Qualifications

  • 1 year minimum experience as a B-class pipe welder at Austal or 2 years in a similar role at a comparable employer.
  • Ability to pass 'A Class' skills validation test for restricted open root welds.
  • Ability to onboard and pass 6GR weld qualification tests for copper nickel, carbon steel and stainless steel.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret basic drawings and weld symbols.
  • Pass weld tests for Austal USA in the 6GR position and for aluminum pipe (Austal TIG test procedures).
  • Maintain Austal housekeeping procedures and ensure quality during work.
  • Inspect work, identify potential problems, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Contribute to quality procedures and continuously improve team communication and flexibility.
  • Work as a productive team member to meet daily supervisor-set goals.
  • Assist in waste elimination and maintenance of department equipment.
  • Carry a full set of personal tools and be ready for overtime as needed.
