Avail Staffing is seeking experienced Marine Brush & Roll Painters in Norfolk, VA to apply protective marine coatings on various vessels. You will prepare surfaces, mix coatings, and apply finishes while following safety procedures and project specs.

The role requires at least 1 year of marine painting experience and the ability to work in demanding shipyard environments, including confined spaces and heights. Starting pay is $17.00/hr with a field assessment for potential increases.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of marine painting experience is required.
• Experience applying coatings with brushes and rollers.
• Knowledge of surface prep techniques and coating procedures.
• Ability to read work instructions and paint specifications.
• Familiarity with marine coatings including epoxies and urethanes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Apply marine coatings using brush and roller techniques on naval, commercial, and government vessels.
• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, wire brushing, and solvent wiping.
• Apply primers, epoxies, urethanes, and other coatings per manufacturer specs.
• Mix paints and maintain material consistency.
• Mask and protect surrounding equipment and surfaces before painting.
• Inspect finished work for coverage, appearance, and coating thickness.
• Maintain clean work areas and store painting materials properly.
• Follow OSHA, NAVSEA, and company safety procedures.
• Work in tanks, voids, confined spaces, and at heights as required.
• Perform other related duties assigned by supervisors.

Field assessment given to determine increased pay rate. Candidates with Fast-Clad experience will take priority.

Preferred Qualifications

• Shipyard or Navy vessel experience
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
• Experience working to NAVSEA Standard Items
