Job summary

The University of Arizona is seeking a part-time Laboratory Technician in the Duhamel Lab, Marine Microbiology, to support NSF Biological Oceanography research. You will work with a multidisciplinary team on mixoplankton studies, culture maintenance, sampling, and data processing in a collaborative environment.

You will assist with culture handling, experiments, and analyses, coordinating with collaborators and following established protocols.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent; 3 years of lab experience with sterile/aseptic technique and careful record keeping.
• Experience with basic microbiology and cell biology lab practices, including aseptic technique and safety practices.
• Willingness to learn and operate laboratory instrumentation and maintain detailed records.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cultures of marine prasinophyte algae and bacterial prey with sterile technique.
• Set up, monitor, and optimize continuous-culture experiments and characterize growth phases.
• Coordinate timing with collaborators and maintain backup cultures for sampling campaigns.
• Perform routine sampling and assist with analyses (flow cytometry, cell counts, biovolume, chlorophyll, nutrients, radioisotope uptake).
• Assist the PI and postdocs with data management and general lab organization.
