Qualifications

  • 5+ years in marine fabrication, shipbuilding, ship repair or related field.
  • Strong AutoCAD 2D skills; 3D experience a plus.
  • Experience reading and developing fabrication, structural, mechanical, or vessel drawings.
  • Ability to develop material take-offs and Bills of Materials.

Responsibilities

  • Manage marine fabrication and modification projects from planning through completion.
  • Provide technical direction to fabrication teams and troubleshoot shop and field issues.
  • Develop and review AutoCAD drawings for structural modifications and vessel layouts.
  • Coordinate with shop personnel, project management, vessel operations, procurement, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Review field measurements, materials, and fabrication requirements before work begins.
  • Track schedules, materials, costs, procurement needs, and progress.
  • Support vessel repairs, upgrades, dry-dock projects, and field modifications.
  • Review completed work for conformance with drawings and specifications.
  • Support regulatory approval processes involving ABS and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Job description

Galveston, TX | $125,000 Base Salary | Full-Time, On-Site

We are recruiting an experienced Marine Manager -Fabrication Architect for a well-established marine construction operation in Galveston, Texas.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role supporting the fabrication, modification, repair, and improvement of commercial marine vessels and equipment. We are looking for someone who understands both the engineering side and the fabrication side of marine projects and is comfortable moving between drawings, project planning, the fabrication floor, and field operations.

The right candidate will have strong marine technical knowledge combined with practical experience working with fabrication teams, shipyards, vessels, dredges, barges, workboats, or heavy marine equipment.

  • Manage marine fabrication and modification projects from initial planning through completion.
  • Provide technical direction to fabrication teams and troubleshoot shop and field issues as they arise.
  • Develop and review AutoCAD drawings for structural modifications, equipment layouts, fabrication details, vessel improvements, and marine construction projects.
  • Turn engineering concepts into practical, buildable fabrication plans.
  • Coordinate closely with shop personnel, project management, vessel operations, procurement, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Review field measurements, drawings, materials, and fabrication requirements before work begins.
  • Develop material requirements, Bills of Materials, and quantity take-offs for steel, piping, equipment, and fabricated components.
  • Track schedules, materials, costs, procurement needs, and project progress.
  • Support vessel repairs, upgrades, dry-dock projects, equipment installations, and field modifications.
  • Review completed work for conformance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Support technical documentation and regulatory approval processes involving ABS and the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • Maintain accurate project drawings and as-built documentation.
  • Identify constructability issues early and develop practical solutions that keep projects moving safely and efficiently.
Background and Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience within marine fabrication, shipbuilding, ship repair, dredging, marine construction, vessel engineering, or a closely related environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong AutoCAD 2D skills; 3D experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on understanding of structural steel and marine fabrication.
  • Experience reading and developing fabrication, structural, mechanical, or vessel drawings.
  • Ability to develop material take-offs and Bills of Materials.
  • Experience coordinating projects involving fabrication personnel, operations, vendors, and procurement.
  • Working knowledge of vessel modifications, repairs, or marine equipment installations.
  • Experience with ABS and/or U.S. Coast Guard requirements is highly desirable.
  • Dredge, barge, workboat, shipyard, or heavy marine construction experience is a major plus.
