Job summary

This vacancy is for a GS-1801-11/12, MARINE INSP/PSCO-APPRENTICE located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR NEW YORK INSPECTIONS DIVISION in STATEN ISLAND, New York.

Key Responsibilities

You will serve as a MARINE INSP/PSCO-APPRENTICE and be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership in the enforcement of marine safety, vessel inspection, pollution prevention, vessel manning, regulations, treaties, international conventions, and commercial vessel safety. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

Typical work assignments include: Conducts reviews of vessel's plans, safety management systems and operating systems to determine compliance with regulations and applicable standards.

Determines that vessels being inspected have the proper documents and certificates on board and in effect, Inspects all required navigation, intra-vessel communication, alarm, lifesaving, fire fighting, and pollution prevention systems on a vessel to ensure that they are operating properly and in compliance with applicable national and international standards.

Ensures the required inspection documentation is prepared and appropriate orders drafted specifying any required changes, 'repairs or operational limitations for the vessel and its equipment.
