Job summary

Alaska Marine Lines seeks a Generator Mechanic to maintain and repair marine power packs and generator systems for marine transportation. The role covers preventative maintenance, electrical and mechanical diagnostics, and other duties.

This is a safety sensitive position. Responsibilities include operating and overhauling diesel generator sets, inspecting engines, troubleshooting control systems, testing load banks, and occasional travel to Alaska.

Qualifications

  • 2 year vocational/technical degree in Diesel Technology or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with mechanical & electronic diesel engine service & repair.
  • Experience with power generators 15–500 kW and brands listed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, repair, and overhaul diesel generator sets in refrigerated service.
  • Inspect and service diesel engines and ancillary components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines and generator control systems.
  • Test load banks and inspect live loads on barges and shore side.
  • Travel to Alaska twice yearly as required.
  • Train other personnel in power generation equipment operation.
