Job summary

MSHS PPG seeks an experienced Marine Field Service Technician to support Southern California marine and power generation service operations. Role involves diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance of MTU engines for marine applications, with field travel up to 50% (El Cajon) or up to 80% (Long Beach region).

Opportunities include sea trials, service documentation, and mentoring apprentices. Travel may extend internationally.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in marine engine repair.
  • Proficient with MTU engines and other major marine brands (John Deere, CAT, Cummins, Volvo Penta).
  • Experience with MTU MCS/RCS electronics and Diasys software.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with marine clients, supporting growth domestically and internationally.
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on MTU engines in various marine applications.
  • Conduct sea trials and verify engine performance.
  • Maintain service records and documentation to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and training to apprentice marine technicians.
  • Travel within the assigned region and occasionally outside the area, including potential international assignments.

Marine Field Service Technician

Work Location: El Cajon, CA | Workshop-Based | Up to 50% Travel
Long Beach, CA Region | Field-Based/Remote | Up to 80% Travel

Salary Range: $43.00 - $56.00 per hour + an additional $1.50 when working in the field

Travel: Field Position – travel up to 50%

Sign-On Bonus: up to $5,000.00

We are seeking an experienced Technician to support our growing marine and power generation service operations throughout Southern California. We are open to candidates based in either the El Cajon or Long Beach, CA markets, with the work arrangement and travel expectations varying by location.

Candidates based in El Cajon will primarily work from our El Cajon workshop when not supporting field service activities and can expect up to 50% travel. Candidates based in the Long Beach region will work in a primarily field-based capacity, with most service activity taking place throughout the greater Long Beach/Los Angeles and Southern California marine markets, and can expect up to 80% travel.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong service professional who enjoys a combination of hands‑on troubleshooting, repair, customer interaction, and field service work.

About the Role:

In this role, you will:

  • Work directly with marine clients, supporting our company’s continued growth domestically and internationally.
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on MTU engines in various marine applications.
  • Conduct sea trials and verify engine performance, making necessary adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain service records and documentation to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and training to apprentice marine technicians.
  • Travel within the assigned region and occasionally outside the area, including potential international assignments.

Preferred Work Experience and Attributes:

We are looking for someone with:

  • 3+ years of experience in marine engine repair
  • Experience with MTU, John Deere, CAT, Cummins, FTP and Volvo Penta (preferred)
  • Experience with MTU MCS/RCS electronics and Diasys software (preferred).
  • Strong laptop/PC skills for diagnostics and software applications.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and read service manuals.
  • Fluent with the use of multi-meters and electronic troubleshooting.
  • A passion for working within a cross-functional team environment in a dynamic industry.

Other Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (technical schooling is a plus).
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license and ability to be insured.
  • Valid passport, or the ability to obtain a passport.
  • Own set of mechanic tools.
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is a plus.
  • Ability to complete company‑provided manufacturer training (online and in person).

Travel & Mobility:

  • Frequent travel within an assigned territory (AOR), with potential travel outside the region, including international.

Salary & Benefits:


Salary: $43.00 to $56.00 per hour, based on skills and experience. Additional $1.50 per hour when working in the field.
