Job description

THOR Solutions

is actively seeking a highly motivated senior-level Marine Electronics Engineer with experience in System Architecture to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)'s Ship Design Team in Washington, DC.

An ideal candidate will have prior experience developing system architecture using DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and experience with IBM Rational System Architect.

Typical Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct design of electric and electronic systems, study power generation and distribution, centralized machinery monitoring and control.
  2. Apply knowledge of engineering principles and techniques to develop and evaluate technical reports related to C5I systems onboard USCG ships.
  3. Review and evaluate the effect of new or modified electronics on overall system performance.
  4. Review and adjudicate system design specifications, test requirements, Departures from Specification (DFS), Request for Waiver (RFW), and Engineering Changes (ECs).
Location:

Primarily onsite (at least 3 days/week) at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC. Alternate telework schedules or locations may be considered for especially qualified candidates.

Travel:

Up to 10% travel to CONUS locations for ship checks.

Physical Activity:

Primarily desk/computer work. May involve visits to waterfront/shipboard environments, including traversing shipboard spaces.

Pay Range:

Estimated $110,000 - $140,000, based on qualifications and experience.

Citizenship & Security Clearance:

US Citizenship is required. Eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance is mandatory, with preference for those already holding one.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience with DoDAF system architecture.
  • Experience with IBM Rational System Architect.
  • At least one (1) year in federal ship or boat building programs.
  • DoD IAT Level II certification or higher from approved list.
  • Knowledge of USN, USCG, ABS, or commercial ship design rules preferred.
  • Additional certifications like PE, PMP, DHS certifications are a plus.
  • Strong communication and proficiency with productivity software.
