Job summary

Gulf Marine Repair Corporation seeks a Marine Electrician to install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems on vessels. You will read blueprints and schematics, analyze electrical diagrams, and work on equipment ranging to 2300 volts, with emphasis on safety and quality.

The ideal candidate has an Electrical Trade Certificate or Diploma and holds relevant safety certifications (BOSIET, Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry).

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work with high voltage up to 2300 volts.
  • Analyze blueprints, schematics and drawings for efficient installation of new or upgraded systems.
  • Diagnose electrical problems or failures and identify equipment or system repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical components and systems like motors, motor controls, transformers, generators, switches, welding machines, drill presses, grinders, heavy equipment, cranes, lathes.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment for repair and maintenance of electrical systems on vessels.
  • Analyze blueprints and schematics to plan installations and upgrades.
  • Diagnose electrical problems and perform timely repairs on electrical subsystems.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with safety practices and hazardous materials handling.

Job description

Gulf Marine Repair is currently looking for a Marine Electrician.
Skills:

Ability to operate equipment used in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems, planning and managing projects, preparing and maintaining accurate records, while adhering to safety practices and handling of hazardous materials.

Knowledge:

Ability to perform mathematical equations, read technical information, composes a variety of documents, and/or facilitates group discussions and solves practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods, techniques, materials, tools used in installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of electrical systems/subsystems: troubleshoot mechanical, electrical system and blueprints and schematics.

Shipyard experience is a plus!

Requirements:
  • Must be able to work with and maintain high voltage 2300 volts and less.
  • Analyze blueprints, schematics and drawings of electrical systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new or upgraded system.
  • Diagnose electrical problems or failures for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or system repairs.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair electrical components and/or systems like: motors, motor controls, circuits, transformers, generators, compressors, switches, welding machines, drill press, drills, grinders, heavy equipment, cranes, lathes.
  • Must be able to identify and be familiar with the following: millimeters, voltmeters, manometers, high voltage meters, clamp on amp meters, infrared heat guns, basic electrical tools, crimping tools (manual and hydraulic), conduit pipe benders.

Preferred Certifications
  • Electrical Trade Certificate or Diploma.
  • Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) (if offshore assignments are required).
  • Working at Heights certification.
  • Confined Space Entry certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (preferred).
  • Valid electrical safety training (LOTO, Electrical Safety Awareness, or equivalent).
