Job summary

Gator Dredging is seeking a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) for construction projects in Melbourne, FL. You will ensure OSHA compliance, advise on hazard reduction, and monitor safety violations to foster a culture of health and safety on site.

The ideal candidate has at least five years in dredging or marine construction SSHO roles and three years on USACE marine projects, with OSHA 30, EM 385-1-1, First Aid/CPR, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years in dredging or marine construction SSHO experience.
• Minimum three years continuous construction as SSHO on USACE marine projects.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA/EPA/EM 385-1-1 regulations.
• Ability to develop AHA documents on site with project team.
• Experience writing health and safety reports and policies.
• Strong analytical and data reporting skills.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• BS/BA in safety management or engineering preferred.
• Instructor-signed OSHA 30-hour training certificate.
• OSHA 30 and EM 385-1-1 certified.
• First Aid/BBP/ CPR certified and up to date.

Responsibilities

• Support the development of Occupational Health & Safety policies and programs
• Advise on safety topics (noise levels, machinery)
• Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventive measures
• Review policies per legislation
• Initiate OSHA training
• Inspect premises for non-conformity
• Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances
• Stop unsafe acts
• Record and investigate incidents
• Prepare reports and provide statistics
• Ensure company policies followed
• Hold daily safety meetings
