Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems in the United States seeks an entry-level Tool Engineer at JSMC to support fabrication, machining, and vehicle assembly. Interpret drawings and 3D models for manufacturability, develop tooling, and balance production lines.

Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical/Manufacturing Eng preferred; related tech degree with experience considered.
  • Experience in 3D modeling; Creo/Pro-E or Mastercam a plus.
  • MS Office proficiency; strong written and verbal communication.
  • U.S. Person per ITAR; ability to obtain DoD facility access and pass background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret drawings and 3D models for manufacturability with assembly processes.
  • Develop standard work and line-balancing for varying production rates.
  • Create processes and instructions for production operators.
  • Design fixtures and tool aids for welding, assembly and machining.
  • Develop CNC programs for plate processing and mills (3-axis/5-axis).
  • Procure tooling and equipment to support production.
  • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing staff.

Job description

Position Description:
  • - Entry-level, bargaining-unit-represented Tool Engineer position at General Dynamics Land Systems; Joint Systems Manufacturing Center (JSMC) provides an opportunity for a unique work experience involving the fabrication, machining, and assembly of tracked and wheeled military vehicles.
  • - Interpret drawings and 3D models for manufacturability with assembly processes
  • - Develop standard work assignments based on line balancing for varying production rates
  • - Develop and provide processes and instruction to the production operators
  • - Concept and detail fixturing and tool aids to support production processes (welding / assembly / machining)
  • - Understand electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic requirements related to machines and fixturing
  • - Develop CNC programs for plate processing, 3-axis mills, or 5 axis mills
  • - Procure needed tooling and equipment to support assembly production processes
  • - Provide assistance on cost estimating for future programs and tasks
  • - Provide technical support and training to the manufacturing operations personnel at JSMC
  • - Implement PSCA and continuous improvement
  • - Provide technical interface with on-site customer (US Government)
  • - Involvement in and support of the formalized teaming process
Position Requirements:
  • - BS Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering preferred; BS in related Technical / Engineering fields or Associate Degree in related Technical / Engineering field with relevant work experience considered.
  • - Experience with 3D modeling software; experience with Pro-E (Creo) or MasterCam is a plus
  • - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications
  • - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • - Personal time management skills and organization
  • - A U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (International Trafficking of Arms Regulation)
  • - Successful in completing the pre-employment process including but not limited to medical exam, drug screen, and background check.
  • - Able to obtain Department of Army unescorted facility access.
  • - Able to work in a team based environment.
  • - Able to perform problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • - Willing and able to work off-shift, if required.
  • - Able to travel occasionally and work overtime when needed.
